WWU_GA_85: The bit floated through a 2x4 with ease, but tried 6x8 joist and after about 1" it wouldn't drill deeper. I tried another spot in the 6x8 but again 1" deep. I tried the 2x4 and the bit failed at about 1". I intend to return to Amazon.
SOMODA contacted me within a day requesting a little bit more information and refunded the amount I paid. I’m impressed by their customer service and upgraded to 4 star.

archfubar: I like these auger style bits because they do a good job of moving quickly through thick material. I used these to drill some deep holes into a board that I ended up using as a floating shelf (the holes were so that I could insert pegs through the back of it which were attached to the wall). The pilot tip also makes it easy to stay on track. Just make sure you have a decently powerful drill to be able to use a bit like this, or it'll bog down under the torque.

PenguinFan: Researched many extended length 1/2" drill bits before landing on this one. I am glad I did. The quality for the price is impressive. I used this drill bit on a recent project building a wood retaining wall with pressure treated 6x6 timbers. After 40+ holes drilled, the bit still cuts through the wood quickly! I would definitely consider buying other bits from this manufacturer for future projects. Thank you for a quality product at an affordable price.

I did clear the chips every couple of inches. Are used to drill 16 inches deep in treated fence posts.
