Marisa: I wanted a pink coffee maker, but couldn’t find one. I came across this adorable retro pink Smeg coffee maker sold for the same price on many different sites. It was way out of my budget, $230-$270. However, I couldn’t find any other affordable brand in the color I wanted, so after months of debate, I finally purchased this one on Amazon. Such a bad decision! It’s not intuitive to use. The buttons are pointless. There’s one for “aroma”, seriously??!! Another useless button for brewing half a pot. That’s ridiculous since you can just make half a pot. You don’t need a button for that! As if someone would make a full pot but press a button so only half is made and the coffee grounds sit there already strained until you decide to make the other half??? The lid doesn’t open back far enough to poor all the water out of the pot. Water is spilled every time! It only makes 10 cups which I knew when buying, but figured it wouldn’t make a difference. It does. I often make two pots to accommodate three people in the house. Unless you truly only pour 6oz cups. One pot fills 2-3 regular mugs. No refills. d.gordon: I've read the reviews and after a year, I finally purchased it. Let me say. For all the reviews that mentioned that it's hard filling the water reserve using the coffee pot and that it's not hot enough to drink. This is what I have to say in the matter. YES, you will need to use another container to fill the water and it's no BIG deal. I use a measuring cup and it works great, no spills and it pours right in. The temp of the coffee was perfect for me. But I do not like to drink scalding water. If you want your coffee hotter, you can use a microwave and PRESTO hotter coffee. The 60 mins time limit for the warmer tray is a bit of a bummer (I do like the two hours), but it's not a deal breaker. Again microwave for a few seconds and we once again have hotter than hot coffee. The Smeg is easy to program and it looks great. Kinda reminds me of a Dalek. I got pink (and it was hard to choose a color because I liked them all), and it looks striking next to my turquoise Keurig.

Ya tengo la de Americano para acompañar a mi cafetera de espresso a la cual le he dado un uso rudo impresionante en más de dos años. Pueden parecer caras, pero son muy superiores a otras cafeteras incluso más caras o "profesionales". Buena marca y cumplidora.

Alex Walker: Let me just tell you, I LOVE the SMEG. Yes it’s expensive, yes it’s a bit fussy, but as an avid coffee fan, I love it because it makes the best and hottest cup of drip coffee I’ve ever had at home.
I can use the exact same kind of ground coffee in 3 different drip machines and the taste out of the SMEG is by far superior. It takes awhile to brew a pot (8-10 min) but it is worth the wait!!

Pros: superior flavor/quality of brew, gorgeous on my counter. These two pros far outweigh the cons

Cons:
-not intuitive to operate, read the manual! Some commands (like setting auto brew) require hitting two buttons at once
-Wants me to run a lengthy water descaling cycle every couple weeks—I’ve started to ignore this but I have to look at a red flashing light...
-handle on pot does not feel very solid. I’m worried it could break off with a heavy pot of coffee...
-keep warm plate only stays on an hour. I need at least two hours, so I end up powering off and back on to reset the timer. Not a deal breaker but annoying.

And despite the cons, I love my SMEG and would recommend it. Hopefully they can address a few of these items in a...
