Ann: I bought these to use with a Foodsaver vacuum sealing machine. The brand name bags are just too expensive for my budget.

My Foodsaver came with some bags, so I was able to compare. Like the brand name, the Simple Houseware bags have one side that's smooth and one side with a lot of tiny channels to get the most air sucked out. Both brands felt very sturdy.

I liked that the SimpleHouseware bags were a couple of inches longer than the Foodsaver bags. You can reuse the bags--NOT if they've been used for raw meat, but for everything else. Since you lose some of the bag every time you cut it open, having a longer bag to start with means more times using it before it's too short. Not only are the bags cheaper per bag, but the extra length means they can be cheaper per total number of possible uses.

Having so many bags at once (100), I was able to easily vacuum seal not just new items going into the deep freeze, but frozen stuff that was already in there. So far, everything has stayed perfectly vacuum sealed.
