CayyC: I bought this book and read it to children at an event I do for the public library. It was a big hot and some of the children already had it or planned to buy it. 10/10. I enjoyed it myself as an adult.

Amazon Customer: I loved reading this book to my granddaughter!!! It’s such an awesome and encouraging book for young girls. It’s has wonderful stories about great women that would be a great way to teach young girls that they should never give up on their dreams and aspirations.

diane: I’m reading this series of books to my seven year old granddaughter. To my happy surprise, she’s been very engaged, asking lots of questions. I’ve read that girls start losing confidence in their abilities as early as ten years old. It’s important to present positive and inspiring role models, and to promote a self-image full of possibilities. She can’t read all of these stories by herself, but by reading them together, there are lots of opportunities for discussion.

L: i've read this to several of my classes (ranging form 6 yrs to 12 yrs) and they all enjoy it but the kids under 10 definitely get more into it. at the end of the book i always ask the kids if they have questions or comments and sometimes they'll share take away messages like if we keep trying we can do anything, or it doesnt matter who you are it just matters what you do (which always makes my heart melt!), it also encourages discussion around acceptance and also the progress that still needs to be made. i also have the she persisted around the world one which i prefer more because of the people in it, but they are child appropriate while still touching on deeper topics. the illustrations and summaries of each woman is great, and i love that there is also a quote from each person in it.

KW: This was a great introduction to famous women for young people. There are historical as well as modern day examples of women that have been successful in various ways. I can see it being inspiring for many young people and I hope it helps to change the dialogue around doing things "like a girl." I also hope that is serves as a springboard for many young people to start learning more about women in general. Too often women's contributions are ignored in history.
The writing in the book is a bit too advanced or wordy for very young readers and maybe a bit simple for older readers, but it gives a really nice introduction to each of these women which may create interest to learn more.

Gemini Girl: Lovely and inspiring stories for little girls and little boys to read (likely age 8 and up); gorgeous illustrations too. Too bad Hillary Clinton isn't among the women written about, perhaps fear of nepotism from the author (her daughter) made her think twice about it? She is after all the first woman to run for the Office of President - so very noteworthy! Chelsea - write your mother's story!

EH Consultant: This is a decent book that offers short and informative reads. I would have given it more stars if (1) the stories were a little longer and more detailed. Even little factoid boxes or an index with more information would have been nice if there were concerns about keeping each story short enough for very young minds to sit through. Because of the brevity, I feel like my 4 year old sits nicely and learns something, but my 7 year old is left wanting more. Certainly we can hunt for more information online, but I would have liked to see more in the book itself. Also, (2) I feel like this is a book that celebrates women who achieved something. However, I was really expecting a little more focus on the adversity the women overcame because the title is about persisting. Persistence wasn't actually demonstrated, and that was what drew me to this book. I hoped it was finally a book that could teach my children about hitting barriers and trying again, and hitting barriers and trying again.
We certainly enjoyed the book and the diversity of experiences we learned about. I just wasn't overly wowed, which is why I've not given this book 5 stars.

rkrobins: I bought this book to read to my four year old twin girls. After the first two stories every time I said "she" they shouted back "persisted". Great choices of featured women, with quotes from each about persevering which I found quite moving.
