Phillip Marshall: Shawn's story is a testimony of the healing power of the good news of Christ Jesus for all Christians; and that includes Catholics. The unfortunate part of Shawn 's witness is that he has fallen for the ole evangelical false dichotomy that Catholics are not Christians even though he was raised Catholic. It reminds of the typical person who says, "I went to Catholic school for blank amount of years..." and then says something completely contrary to Catholic doctrine. Catholics are Christians, Shawn.

K-ROCK: If you're looking for a book about Shawn's wrestling career, this isn't the book for you. He talks about wrestling sparingly, with his match against Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24 and his matches against The Undertaker from WrestleMania 25 and 26 respectively as the focal points. I'd also like to note that when he does talk about it, he talks about it in the context of the reader being a non-wrestling fan.

I remember back when Shawn became a Christian back in 2002, This book is his testimony of his walk with Christ since then.

You could really file this book under the Christian Living category. This is a summary of all the things that God has taught him over the years. He talks about how he was before he came to Christ and his life since then. He goes into detail about his marriage and family as well as all the struggles he's been through. He talks about his outdoors show too.

Needless to say, I used the highlighter on my Kindle quite a bit. If you're a Christian and are familiar with HBK or pro wrestling, I'd recommend picking this up. I was really blessed by reading it.

Daryl N Vandenberg: There is some familiar ground covered here, but not so much that it felt like a retread, only enough for people who are unfamiliar with who he is to be brought up to speed. It was pretty much exactly what I had hoped for and expected. The only downside, as it is with most audio books, is it's not read by the author. Other than that, I thought Shawn gave a very honest, often very specific and introspective account of how he went from growing up in a nominal Catholic family, to for all intents and purposes, Catholic in name only, to both his and he's wife's conversions to Christianity. I've watched all the WWE produced stuff on Shawn, as well as read his other book, and even seen a RF video shoot interview with Shawn, and this is a fabulous addition if you share Shawn's world view, which I do. He addresses a lot of specifics troubles he had trying to navigate through the landmines of life as a celebrity in a business that is often viewed as low brow entertainment. I was very happy to hear how well thought out his decisions were and that he was sincere with God as his primary focus in his decision making.

Awesome_Outlaw: ...And that's key.

Titles and women, strops and in-ring glory, if you're looking for those read Heartbreak and Triumph. This is not that, and neither is it an over-the-top 'None so zealous as a convert' tome.

It's reflective. Shawn discusses much more of the personal nature - the how and why he turned to the Church, who helped him and why. There are a lot of references to being saved, but that is to be expected. This book is really about separating the man from the TV character. Each chapter begins with a verse from Scripture but don't let that put you off. Ultimately this is about a man who realised he was on the path to self-destruction and did something about it. The rock he clung to was Christianity. In that sense it's something that we can all relate to - sometimes we need to find something or someone to help us get through. Often it's our family or close friends or some radical event that causes us to refocus. From this book it's obvious that that happened, and assistance came through faith.

There is no hell fire and damnation in this book, no evangelising or "You must convert!" bible thumping. It's actually a well-considered tale of one man's journey....

Mr. B. Shepherd: I bought this book thinking that it would mainly be about Shawn Michaels the wrestler. I must admit that I was wrong. The book is mainly about Shawn Michaels, the man of faith. This however didn't detract from my enjoyment of it.

Basically the book acts as a sequel to his first book (which by the way Amazon, why can I not get that on Kindle?!). Michaels explains that he had no intention of revisiting his original career as he had already written about that. Instead he talks a lot about his second stint in wrestling after he became a man of god.

Michaels relates a very simple story. At the height of his career he was popping too many pills and it was his son that eventually prompted him to seek help from his addiction, which he found in the form of the church. His experiences caused him to truly have a life conversion and change the way he conducted his life. His second career in wrestling proved difficult given that he had to juggle his act with his faith and convictions. His second retirement he attributes to God's will and his desire to spend more time at home with his family. Since retiring he has got involved in an outdoor show about hunting, but little in...

Justin: When I was 9 years old, my first exposure to wrestling was watching the 1995 Royal Rumble where Shawn Michaels won the Rumble match even though he was the Number 1 entrant. Ever since, Shawn Michaels has been my favorite wrestler.

I found this book to provide good insight into a man who hit a low-point in his life, and the ways he came around to overcoming the obstacles to his happiness. The only complaint I would have about the book was that it was quite short, and there were many parts where he just glossed over some topics without going into more detail about them.

Regardless, this book isn't primarily one about wrestling. It's more about a story of how one's priorities in life change, and just one example of how one comes to their own happiness.

I would like to comment on an earlier review where a person said that liberal Non-Believers should not read this book. I am an agnostic who leans heavily towards atheism, and yet, I still found great value in reading this book. Just because I don't share the Christian faith, that does not mean I cannot appreciate a story of the journey a man went through to go from being a drug-addicted, deeply unhappy person who...

Emma: This book is very different to Heartbreak and Triumph. It's not a story about Shawn's wrestling career. He still talks about wrestling in every chapter of the book and relates to his religion and wrestling constantly, but this is more about religion than wrestling.
But I also feel that there's a new level of maturity and honesty in this book. Shawn was very fresh in his life changes before and I think it reflects in his first book. There's an air of caution in it that isn't in this book.

Shawn's really open about some personal things happening in his life and some of the things he decided to share surprised me. But I think honesty has become a new addiction to Shawn. He knows the more honest he is about things, the more he erases that legacy from before and people have less reason to doubt him.
He talks about his retirement, Bret Hart and Vince McMahon crops up a lot throughout the book. Shawn talks about his marriage and family, hunting, MRA and Keith Mark throughout the book.
It's a very interesting read, but it will only cater to those who are interested in all aspects of HBK's life. You need to be interested in the man behind the gimmick to appreciate this book...
