Wally Fernandes: A marvelous book for Catholic men. I would even say its Catholic theology simplified

JonPittsburgh67: This book starts out good and goes on to become great, a true must read for men of all ages, and for all faiths. The author has put together a roadmap that calls into mind what men have always been for many, many thousands of years, and still are in some cultures. Wonder why men don't act like heroes and guardians for their families? This book and the truths that it relates has the answers as to how and why we got to where we are today, why this can't work, and how to become the kind of man that is fit for God's purpose for us, one that is dear to God's heart. The easiest five star review that I ever gave in about 20-years, and probably the book that most deserved it. Thanks to Sam Guzman for having the good sense to know what to write, the courage to write it, and the grace to live it.

FrBrass: This books is timely and a good help to the men of our society today. It may seem basic to review what a Catholic man is to be, however everyone in our men's group that has read it has come away greatly edified. I think it works best in a group setting taking each chapter slowly -- we really get to talk about these topics have come up in the lives of the men, and, further, how this has help them to improve in their moral and spiritual lives.
The language is easy to comprehend; it is not trying to be obtuse but rather communicate clearly and opening, almost as if the author were merely sitting down with a beer to talk about what we never talk about.

Barnaby Smith: This book is a great introduction to Catholic masculinity, covering important topics in that regard. However, it would have benefited from a much more coherent structure, and perhaps also some more insights from saints and theological works.
As a side note, this is absolutely an introduction, and not at all academic, so if you want a detailed, thorough, systematic approach to Catholic masculinity, this is not the book (as the author himself mentions). I have not taken off a star for that, as that is not what the book sets out to do. It is quite clear about this: perhaps it could have been clearer?
At any rate, as an introduction, this is really a great book, and I would certainly highly recommend it as an introduction.

Rushmoor: There's a lot to like about this book, this "misty evening talking philosophy over beers at a bricked street pub" brand he's cultivating. He deeply understands this faith more than most raised in it and is an eloquent ambassador.
What holds this book back is the fact he is not (yet) a mystic, despite revealing glimpses of that realm, awareness of its space within Catholicism.
One moment, like page 100, he writes eloquently of our call to become God, how Catholicism is uniquely structured to facilitate that growth.
The next, perhaps still subconsciously beholden to his Baptist Oklahoma background, he frustratingly insists that Jesus is the only way. It drags this beautiful, robust faith down into the thin realm of fundamentalism and Evangelicals.
He conflates Christ, the sentient force that has existed for billions of years and been accessed by all cultures in different ways (see Fr. Richard Rohr's universal Christ work), with Jesus, the guy who modeled what humans are capable of when fully embodying that force.
He writes of the necessity to be a child to Mary, but many are ready for a spiritual manhood.
He may well be there, too. It's hard...

Michael A. Malloy, M.D.: I truly enjoyed this book! I have been following Sam's website, The Catholic Gentleman, for several years and I was excited to see his new book with the same name. I think this is material which will be very useful for men who are trying to live authentic, virtuous lives. I have had the pleasure of meeting Sam and I can say he is a great man who deeply cares about others and is an extremely devout soul. I know he would like to use this book as a tool for evangelization and to help men reexamine their priorities in life. Regarding the rough edges of the book as noted by another reviewer - that is a style which I have noticed on many books these days and does not bother me at all. My book cover (which is quite useful as a bookmark) is also aligned properly and I'm sure Amazon would gladly send you a new and corrected copy. I highly recommend this book! I have not done any other Amazon reviews but I felt compelled to do this so that many more men should know about Sam's new book.
Sam, keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to many more books/articles from you!

TRACEY ALEXANDER: I have to congratulate you on your book. I bought it for my husband and I’ve read 80% of it staying up till 4 am reading. It’s an incredible book so valuable to men of all ages and different stages of their personal journeys in faith. But I really recommend it to the ladies too because by reading subjects from a male point of view it made me appreciate my feminine role in life as a wife and mother. So I think it’s an important book for all people across the board. Can not recommend high enough

James Wheeler: Most books of spirituality try to make men think, pray, and feel like women. Men are different and need to act accordingly.
