c r.: The loose powder can be just a bit messy... the trick is to NOT overfill the cap with powder. Dip the provided brush in just a little bit of powder... tap the brush on the cap to remove any excess powder... the apply to DRY hair in circular motion.
I apply this powder to fresh washed/dried hair. The product does not get on my clothes or pillow case.
I'll be buying it again!

Patricia M. Doherty: Messy container, ends up with lots of black mini-spots all over face. Hard to imagine what a face looks like if you were using this to cover graying roots or thinning patches of scalp hair. Maybe if you used this first, then a Neutrogena makeup remover cloth before trying to put on more makeup. Hard to say since I did not use it on my scalp.. seemed to stay intact for 24 hours without coming off on a white pillowcase, but again used only on brows.
This may take some experimenting to get right. Since it comes in black, where Joan River’s “Great Hair Day” darkest color is a brown and the price is a relative bargain, this is definitely worth trying.

Susan Khouri: As stated above. Really great color match. A shade lacking in other brands. But this formula does not truly wear like a long lasting waterproof (ish) counterparts by other big brands. It’s more like putting eye shadow on your hairline. Zero staying power. Applies very sheer. Takes some effort to cover those grays. I would not purchase again.

meenad: Blends nicely. I got golden brown. Color is almost an exact match. Stays in until you wash it and even then some will stay. You will need a brush to apply.

The color is going to be subjective, so it might not work for everybody of course. But this one works for me, and I'm very happy with the results. It's very easy to use too. And it's not a spray, so it doesn't get everywhere, which is a huge bonus while traveling. It lasted a lot longer than anything in a spray bottle as well.
I'll continue to buy this. The results are as good as I can expect with darker roots.
