Lauren Adams: I am obsessed with this book. If you are an avid mermaid, you absolutely need this for your coffee table. I snorkel or dive as least 3 or 4 days a week, and we come straight home to look up whatever new species we saw that day.
Gift it to a friend, keep it for yourself.
Don't take it diving with you thought, 100% not waterproof. Don't even put a glass of wine next to it.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: Don't get me wrong, I love this book. The third edition was the spark the lit the fire that is my love of diving. Thanks to that book, I have identified hundreds of fish, and turned it into a living documentation of all the dives I've been able to complete over the years. Since it was getting a bit beat up looking, I thought I'd get the 4th edition. It's also great, but it's missing my favourite part of the 3rd: the table in the back that lets you record where and when you saw each and every species. If that wasn't there in the 3rd, I wouldn't have been likely to write in it, which then would have meant I just wouldn't have such a record of everything, in the one place. One of my favourite activities while on a diving trip is to fill out the back with what I saw the day before, and which dive sites. Please bring that back, book, it's too good a feature to omit.

Oh and also the Queen Parrotfish, terminal phase, isn't accurate, please update that it made me think I hadn't seen it lol.

S. Gable: After many years of cruising and snorkeling at some of the best islands in the Western and Southern Caribbean, I was on the quest to find a good reef fish identification book. Hubby and I used a few fish ID cards, you know the plastic ones that you can carry around with you and at times squint really hard to see if there's any resemblance to the fish we had seen underwater.

This book was a wonderful find and has a wealth of information. The book is divided into twelve (12) identification groups (e.g. disc/ovals, silvery, sloping bodies/tapered heads, small ovals, heavy bodies/large lips, odd shaped swimmers, etc). There are many pictures provided and I enjoy seeing the differences between the juveniles or initial stage and the adult or terminal phase. Some of the plain looking juveniles turn into beautiful and colorful adults such as the Parrotfish.

The book also points out distinctive markings on the fish (line drawings) along with color pictures. Within each identification group, there are explanations along with descriptions of distinctive features, habitat and behavior, and reactions to divers.
