I have purchased Ray-O-Vac Batteries before as I've found them to comparable to the two other better known brands. They are not available everywhere but if I need batteries and Ray-O-Vac is available (usually at a lower price) I choosethem.

Contrary to what a reviewer wrote, these batteries do have a date of manufacture. The date is on each and every battery itself (see photo). The date is not on the package.
The date is the date of manufacture, not like the food best before date. I bought these batteries in January 2021 and they were made in September 2020 (0920 on photo), which is acceptable. I like the fact that they are made in USA !

I put them in my metal detector (4 batteries) over the summer and also in my electric toothbrush (2 batteries) and they have lived up to my expectation. My metal detect saw many whole day digs and I am still at half power, and after probably 4 months, my toothbrush is just started to slow down a bit. I read about production dates on the batteries, and can tell you that not every battery in the pack has them.

Although the batteries did only have 1.4 volts, I put 3 x brand new Duracell Copper Top batteries (tested at exactly 1.5 volts) into the smoke detector and it did the same thing! I looked for a way to get into the smoke detector to clean the sensor. On the back, in tiny letters it says 'This Smoke Alarm will Beep every 30 seconds when the Smoke Alarm is 10 years old from Installation date'. The date on it is July 2009. I feel now it is not fair to malign the batteries, when the fault is the smoke alarm. Let's give it 3 stars for the time being.
