Potter Fan: It would be nice if it could support more monitors with a standard refresh rate, but it’s only a pass through they say. I have 3 CRT computer monitors. Using a mini SEGA game console, the HP70 17” tries to reconnect every second. The screen displays perfect, big click, screen goes black and comes back… this is a permanent cycle. I have 2 15” generic monitors. It cycles like the HP, but not every second, it’s every 56 to 64 seconds??? Odd, but still a deal breaker. The last 15” works perfectly, and furthermore the image is great. There is need to adjust monitor settings based on if you can stretch a 720p image to fill for an old school video game at 4x3. Otherwise you adjust the view in letter box fr like a Switch or NES mini. It’s the same issues for any mini console or HDMI console like Hyperkin… if it works with your CRT… Good Luck.

Mike: This is a powered, or active, HDMI to VGA adapter. Normally, the power to convert an HDMI signal to VGA is provided through the HDMI connection. In some instances this power is either unavailable or is not sufficient to run the digital converter built into non-powered converters. This converter requires a 5VDC power source (your basic cellphone charger) and a USB to micro USB cable; neither of these are included with the adapter.

**The converter can work with or without the external power option.**
If sufficient power is being supplied via the HDMI connection, then the external power isn't required. However, you can always connect the external power regardless the power being supplied via the HDMI input.

A nice feature of this adapter/converter is the 3.5mm stereo audio output jack. While the HDMI format is digital and carries the audio signal along with the video, VGA is analog and the cables do not carry audio. You will need to make an additional connection if audio is needed and the jack on the adapter is a nice convenience. I do not know if the audio jack passes any type of surround sound encoding information. Headphones can be plugged directly into the audio...

DJP: This is a lifesaver for those with newer laptops and an older VGA projector. As newer laptops come out, they discontinue using VGA and use HDMI instead. We have a new/older style projector on the church ceiling with only a VGA capability. The laptop we were using for displaying music, videos, and words to the screen via the projector is very old and overheats. We replaced it but the newer laptop had no VGA output. All the stores (Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.) had this product but all were for an HDMI laptop output to a male VGA. The projector output is a male VGA so a male-to-male doesn't work. (and they were all close to $30 anyway). I found this on Amazon and and even though I could see the picture I was worried it would be the same thing. But it was the HDMI to female and I was able to plug it into the male VGA to the projector. The other issue is getting the sound which does not come thru the HDMI (only picture). This product has a short audio cable that goes into the headphone port on the laptop...good thing that it is detachable. I was able to attach a longer audio to it and plug it into the church mixing board to get the sound to come over the church speakers instead of just to...

Bucky BradCo: This is for a new Dell 3900 series computer running Windows 10, with a single HDMI port connecting to a legacy Dell 176 VGA monitor. Came packaged well, and included everything that was advertised. I connected it up, and IT DID RECOGNIZE THE MONITOR MODEL AND TYPE! However at first the image was "compressed" horizontally and did not fill the screen. It also was showing as a "single monitor". I had to "extend the desktop" in the display settings to make it show as two separate screens. To remedy the compression, I had to take it up to higher resolutions before the image spanned the entire width of the screen. It then "stayed" wide even at lower resolutions. (There is likely a better way to do this, I just don't know what it is....) Windows recommended 1280X1024. It was close by still not right. After trying different resolutions, I finally checked out the advance settings and found that the HZ rate was set to 59 while the monitor supported 60. Changed it, and walla, now renders PERFECTLY on my screen!!!! As long as the adapter holds up, best 9 bucks I ever spent. If it isn't perfect at first, give it a chance.
