I’ve been purchasing this food for my elderly cat who had urinary crystals since he was hospitalized for a second time a few months ago. He doesn’t like the wet prescription diet, and so far, this has done a decent job of keeping him healthy along with prescription dry food recommended by his vet. He likes the taste of this food, only this variety. It’s not an easy variety to find, so I started buying it here. Since I started buying it on Amazon, I noticed the food was very dry and crumbly with a significant amount of liquid that had separated out. That wasn’t the texture when I first discovered it elsewhere. After a while, he stopped wanting to eat it and had more instances of vomiting. I had to place an order with Chewy for a different prescription, and I saw they finally had it in stock again, so I ordered this food there. The difference was immense. The food was moist and very soft with no extra liquid and my cat ate all his food with no vomiting. My guess is this is old or on the verge of going bad. It won’t necessarily hurt your pet, but...

Sarah M.: I was worried that because it’s a healthier food option, they might be finicky. I’ve tried other urinary tract health food for them before and they’ve turned up their noses at it. Not this food! They lick their bowls clean within half hour of getting it. The cans are smaller than usual tins, but it’s worth it if they eat the whole thing, unlike their other food. No waste, healthy food!

MilaRose: My 2 year old male cat started randomly peeing on my clothes about 6 months ago. I didn’t realize at the time what was happening. I provided a drinking fountain for him and changed his litter. The peeing continued here and there for a few months. No other symptoms or changes. One morning I woke up to him behaving very unusually, a could hours later he was hiding, vomiting, and in obvious pain. We took him to an emergency clinic to find out he had formed a total urinary blockage. This would have killed my little guy had we not acted quickly.

She recommended a couple very pricey prescription diets for cats with urinary distinction. Every time he would eat, he would projectile vomit. He became thin, not as active. Occasionally peeing in the house again. It was sad and I felt defeated.

I decided to get him a lick mat slow feeder, and to try the Purina Urinary Tract line. After a ton of research I also purchased a digestive enzyme to add to his food.
(I should add that at this point he ONLY gets wet food. Moisture content is significantly higher with wet, and he needs plenty of water to keep his bladder flushed.)
