G. Crago: I have three cats. Two are about the same age and the third is approaching 21 yrs of age. She’s a little slower these days but still very spry and active. She also wants fed ALL THE TIME! It was gettin g so I was feeding the girls 5-6 times a day. They were getting a bit—chunky.....while my old lady stayed skinny. I decided to try the high protein food with healthier ingredients so I could be sure she was getting the nutritional needs met and get the number of feedings down to a more reasonable regemine for all my girls. It seems to be helping so keeping fingers crossed!

Sanpete: The main ingredients are ocean fish, meat by-products, water, arctic char (more fish), artificial and natural flavors, guar gum, tricalcium phosphate, salt. Minerals: potassium chloride, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide. Vitamins: E, B-1, B-3, B-5, A, K, B-6, B-2, B-12, B-7, B-9, D-3.
Pet food labels typically give a guaranteed analysis of how much protein and other food components are present. One of the components usually included that often makes label readers scratch their heads is "ash."
There's no ash in pet food. "Ash" content is an archaic way of talking about the amount of minerals and undigestible parts that would be left if the food was burned to ash. There's nothing harmful about minerals (quite the opposite), and stuff like bone bits that don't burn are part of a cat's natural diet that won't hurt it either. It was once believed cat food with a high "ash" measure could cause urinary trouble, but that was disproved. If the "ash" content is very high, it might indicate useless filler, though.
