Katt: My HVAC company informed me that I should cover the top so that debris doesn’t get stuck in the AC, which makes the fan work harder and can break. This summer my AC was covered in WHITE from all the cottonwood! I hosed my unit sides down and it took all of 5 minutes to install the cover; just look at the picture on the product. The only thing I did not like is that the plastic that covers the bungee cord hooks popped off when trying to hook onto the slats, but no big deal.
The mesh one is keeping the cottonwood out; the black cover is for fall/winter.

J man: After spending a small fortune on our AC unit we wanted to protect the large fan blades from the elements. The Bestalent Air Conditioner Cover was our choice and we not disappointed. This covered the top of the AC unit completely while allowing cold air and light to still get inside the unit. This prevents mice and other critters for using the AC unit as a home while still protecting the large fan blade from the elements. Great product even approved by the AC tech who completed our first cleaning. He stated the unit was supper clean and asked if we had cleaned it and I showed him what we used. He was very impressed and stated not covering the entire unit and only the top is exactly what you should do. Thanks Bestalent for a great product.

GeeWiz: As other owners have said, the bungee cords could be better. They come with the least expensive construction which is flawed. The metal hooks are not coated with plastic and the plastic cap covering the metal tip comes off too easily. This made it easy for the metal hook to scrape the metal cover on the air conditioning compressor. So I decided to modify the cords by replacing the metal hooks with hard plastic hooks. A set of 10 hard plastic hooks from Amazon cost about $11 and is a worthy investment. The plastic hooks were designed for use in kayaks, cars, trucks or boats. Hence, they should well holding the cover to an air conditioning compressor.
