Roscoe Verdin: Used this after using the POR de greaser / cleaner. I noted it stopped the rust to a degree in that after applying it and rinsing it off with water, I noted that little to no rust was visible when rubbing my hand or a cloth over the area.

Nicky: I had rust in my motorcycle tank and bought this + the por15 tank sealer. They worked like a charm. This metal etching base completely removed all the rust in the tank and prepped the surface for the sealer. Best part is you can keep using it for anything else you want. I poured the liquid back in the bottle and have been using it on rusted nuts and bolts and whatnot since. Really good stuff.

Steve SiegfriedSteve Siegfried: Decided to work on the back half of my 1973 GMC C2500 pickup (long bed). I bought the POR15 Cleaner Degreaser and used that product first. Not sure what to think about it as it didn't appear to do anything that I hadn't already done with a wire brush set used in my drill. Then used the POR15 etching product. Instructions were very limited so I used the product full strength as I didn't see anywhere to dilute it. I used the 56oz hand pump (see picture) to apply the etching liquid to the frame. One container barely did 1/2 the rear frame section. If you're doing a full frame, diffs, etc, I'd buy 5-6 containers of the etching product, as you're supposed to keep it wet for 20 minutes. I rinsed off the areas where I applied the etching product and white residue was left over. Doubtful this will cause a problem when applying the POR15 rust coating product, but time will tell.

E. A. Jacques: I bought this as recommended for use with the POR 15 sealant to prevent rust. I spent hours sanding and grinding the rust off the underside of a replacement truck bed I purchased for my Ford F5150 in preparation for the application of the POR 15 sealant and rust preventative which cost over $50 a quart. So when I watched some videos and all of them recommended the use of a metal etching solvent as the final pre-step, I felt it was in my best interest to make the purchase.

Is this step required, heck I don't know but I was not about to cheap out after all that work. The process requires you to brush or spray this on and keep it wet for 20 minutes. Most video I saw people used a pump style sprayer for this but I choose to use a spray bottle to apply it since it was the quickest and easiest way for me to just purchase a good spray bottle. But it was just enough to cover the truck bed so keeping it wet for 20 minutes was a challenge with no extra spray after the initial application. So I covered it with plastic once it was sprayed to hopefully prevent it from evaporating too soon. It seemed to work, but 20 minutes? Not sure about that. But it definitely changed the appearance...
