M. Bigelow: Prepping for the big group camping trip, I wanted to take the requisite precautions for keeping my kids safe, especially the 4-going-on-30-year-old who's known to bolt off on her own agenda. Going through the many options available here and elsewhere, these were ones that appeared to best fit my needs. All the features I wanted, please step forward:
*Easy to use
*Few buttons
*Quality sound
*Loop for attaching lanyard (it's amazing how many kids' walkies only have belt clips which are useless among most littles I know)
*Compatibility with other walkie talkies
Whoa! Not so fast there, compatibility.
Yeah, this is the killer for me. No matter what I tried, I could not get these things to work with any other walkie talkies on channels 1, 2, or 3, despite the frequencies matching. This was using different brands and models (we have Motorola T600s but I also tried with about five other walkie talkies borrowed from our group of 40+ people) with fresh batteries and any privacy channels/digital scrambling codes turned off. Nada.
Actually, not entirely nada. Channels 2 and 3 were nada. Using channel 1 (462.5625) the other walkie talkies would receive...

Lisa: UPDATE: After posting this review, someone from the company reached out to me and within two days, I received new walkie talkies. My kids were happy to be able to use them again. After using them for over a month now, they are still working well, and there has been no issues or signs of defect. The quality over the speaker and the distance in which you can use them is good. I like that it has a belt clip and the flashlight shines bright. I love the customer service this company has provided, it's something that's hard to find. I'm glad I went with the Playco product. Original Post: I bought this for my 7 and 4 year old. The sound quality was good and the distance in which they could speak to each other seemed good as well. But I think one of them may have a defect. After about two weeks I noticed the kids were not using it anymore and when I asked they said one would not turn on anymore, although the flashlight was still working. I figured the batteries were drained so I replaced the batteries with brand new ones and it literally worked for a few seconds before it stopped again. I tried another new set of batteries and again the same thing.

All#4: I got these as a last minute idea to use while we were on vacation with the kids, but ended up using them for something completely different. When I go outside to do gardening and other yard work my children usually come with me and play or “help” for a while. Once the heat of the summer day gets to be too much though they end up back inside and I continue on with my work. But once In the house it feels like every few minutes they need my attention for something. So back outside they come leaving a trail of open doors behind them letting in every fly, beetle and creepy crawly as well as cooling off the entire neighborhood with our air conditioner. No matter how many times I say close the door behind you they still manage to forget. I started leaving them with one Playco walkie talkie taking the other outside with me. Now when they need me for anything they can call me on the walkie talkie instead of coming outside and leaving the doors open. They get a kick out of it and the cool air stays in our house for me to enjoy when my work is done. The sound quality is clear and I have no problems understanding the kids. They are easy to use…only a few channels (which we don’t...

Tc: My 3 year old is really into walkie talkies, but given his age I didn't want to go crazy. The price point was perfect and these are great for little kids! Only 2 channels, a call button, flash light and the talk button! The handwritten note was cute as I love supporting small businesses!
