After the wheel service mentioned in the original review below, I completely tore the bicycle down and used this grease on the pedal, steering, bottom bracket and freewheel bearings as well as the Omni 191 fork.

Now, the bicycle has never run smoother or quieter.

The bike was a 2003 GT Palomar that had less than 100 miles on it and had been sitting since 2004 or so. It had never been serviced or been apart aside from it's initial assembly when new.

As I mention in the original review below, during the rebuild, I discovered that most of the bearings I serviced this time were not really lubricated or properly adjusted from the factory. The steering head bearings were dry, pedal bearings were dry, crankset/bottom bracket bearings were so/so, but not preloaded properly so the bike always had an annoying light clunking sound when pedaling.

I figure you can get 2-3 full services with the tube of grease depending on how you use it and the type of bearings that you have. This bicycle has all loose bearings.

No complaints at all with Phil Wood Grease.

Please know, when I greased my freewheel, I did the bearings and a...

Eric K: Yes. Phill Wood has been around for years, it makes me think of the birth of BMX from my youth. It’s a super good waterproof lubricant that feels lighter than red brake lubricant and white lithium. I think it becomes noticeably less viscous with low heat like from your fingers so it might become thin where ambient temperatures spike. I haven’t really tested it in colder climates for such things as winter commuting, but would assume it might become too viscous at that point. Anyway, getting back to the point, it’s a great high quality lubricant that doesn’t wash away when it rains and that’s a good thing!

J. Sullivan: I ordered a tube of this grease for the immediate task of redoing both an Alivo and a Deore hub, and the results are spectacular.

This dark green waterproof grease formulation comes out of the tube in a thickness sized just such that it neatly fills a cup.

Phil's grease is so smooth. After having upgraded my twenty year old front wheel with its brand new grade twenty-five ball bearings that I greased up with my Phil Wood, I proceded to give the wheel a quick spin. It took quite a while for insufficient velocity to keep the weight of the reflector from making one more revolution over the peak, at which point, the wheel began to swing back and forth, like a pendulum, until the reflector finally settled plum to the ground. It was amazingly smooth!

I love Phil Wood's Waterproof Grease. It works spectacularly; either that, or I do remarkable work. Either way, I'll get more when I run out.

luckyredhat: Very fast shipping (thank you)

Many uses from repacking a boats saltwater boat propeller shaft bushing. To all round bicycle use. Have used it on every type of bicycle bearings. Have always used it on all bottom brackets from titanium parts to loose ball bearing 1960 schwinns.

Even used on auto parts that need a waterproof grease. Like vintage boat or auto windshield wiper transmissions, car door and trunk mechanisms. Vintage BMW motorcycle items in need of a waterproof grease.
Nice grease to just keep in the top of the tool box. It also has a very good shelf life, even when stored in a very warm / cold garage for years at a end. Just remember to always keep the top on. Use only clean objects to squeeze this on to, so not to contaminate the next project.

Cheers.

Enrique L.: Can't say enough about this great grease. I've used this grease to overhaul the front and rear hubs, hanger set, and headset on my 1974 Schwinn Speedster. The result was super smooth operation--rides like a brand new bike now. Also, this grease is very waterproof meaning I don't need to worry about riding in rain or washing my bike. Some say it's pricey but I think it's worth every dime. I've used about a third of the tube to overhaul the entire bike and that was using it liberally.

UPDATE: I've since used this grease to overhaul the hubs, freewheel, bottom bracket, and headset on a 10-speed from the '70s and had the same great results. The Schwinn I lubed with this grease four years ago is still doing really well. I will occasionally get caught in the rain but everything remains nice and smooth.
