Rachel: I bought this house two years ago and another one this month. The first one is still in good condition. I bought a second one for additional housing for cats. I put a heater in the bottom of both for winter. The roof is good for adding a cat bed on top. These are on a covered porch. Cats can cuddle in the beds on top. The heat radiates up keeping it cozy. Place inside for shelter. Good sturdy cat house.

Keith Demarest: This structure is well built and was the easiest to assemble of anything I have put together. Instructions were simple and everything was labeled. The cats love it.

ChantalzorsChantalzors: This product is sufficient for it’s price. If you consider how much time and money in materials it would cost to do this from scratch it is worth it. However there is no way this is weather proof only thing even slightly weather resistant is the shingle used on the roof. The rest is flimsy thin boards. I personally read the reviews before hand and was prepared for this though. I put polyurethane on it to keep it more water prof and to prevent mold from growing on moist surfaces. It is going on a covered deck but I live in the wettest city in Canada (literally) so the wood needed something extra to keep it from rotting. The polyurethane was easy to apply and absorbed nicely 👍🏼 Aside from that this cat house is perfect for our needs. I was looking for something with a bed space that I could put our heating pad in but also have room for a food dish that would be able to keep our dogs from eating all the cat food. Our dog currently steals the cat food and eats it before our cat gets a chance. This cat house has a lot of perks if you take the time to treat it before it goes outside.

I forgot to mention the boards will crack if you put the screws on too tight so no...

MissVickiMissVicki: This little cat house is super adorable and easy to put together. I'm skeptical that it's really "weatherproof," but it probably would be with some Thompson's Water Seal on the lightweight wood. Other reviewers put theirs under a roof, deck or porch to protect it, but the feral kittens I'm trying to keep alive this winter wouldn't come that close to my house.
I was planning to put mine in a relatively sheltered outdoor area, next to a small tree and a retaining wall that will keep some of the rain and snow off, so I made a few improvements:
1. I bought a sheet of 1-inch insulation for $12 from Lowe's, and cut panels that we fit against each interior wall, sealing up the corners with a line of clear silicone caulk. (We made the hole for the second floor window a bit smaller than the actual window so they can still see out, but we get more value from the insulation.) We also put it on the underside of the floor boards for some more protection between the wood and the ground. And we cut a piece that lays right under the roof, snug on top of the side pieces. This should really help keep the kittens warm this winter.
2. I sealed the seams around the asphalt roof with silicone...

Dawn: These houses are so perfect. We bought this one, and the smaller triangle one, and had them both put together and outside in their new spots in just over an hour. All the pieces fit seamlessly, and the instructions were foolproof. They are very well made, and very nice to look at. The only minor thing I would change on this one is making the hole on the second floor pad smaller, and more off to on side. The top space will only fit 1 cat, but if the hole was a bit smaller 2 could fit nicely by the window. Still thankful! My farm cats thank you.

cityToCountry: Directions sparse and holes not properly aligned or positioned for some parts. Unfortunate but did not affect the sturdiness or purchase.
Lasted over one winter so far with heavy snow and wearing well.
While lower door is outfitted with a door, the upper opening is not. Also the upper opening is too large. Was replacing a lot of food day after day only to find that a raccoon was swinging in for food! Disappointed with that part of design.
Would be beneficial to have a side door as opposed to the roof to gain entry to the body of the house. Trying to access through roof only makes it difficult to place food in the bottom of the house And insufficient room to place on the upper floor.

On The GoOn The Go: Bought this for a stray that adopted ups this summer. He lives on the back porch and with winter coming, we felt he needed a warmer abode. Yes, what earlier reviewers has said is true. The wood is kind of cheap (plywood mostly) and the painting is scant ( I guess it contributes to the weathered look) but the item goes together quickly and fits well. My teenaged son did it in less than 30 minutes with a screwdriver only. It's all that Lego building experience in his youth I guess. The stainless steel screws are self tapping with predrilled holes and attached wooden pegs which help with placement. The roof has some asphalt roofing paper which aids with weather. If one was going to put it out in the elements (ours is under a covered porch) it would be easy to pre-caulk or even weatherproof with an extra coat of stain or marine paint. I put an old woolen sweater (infiltrated with catnip) in the bottom and that cat was inside in a second.

One star off because yes, there was some peeling paint and separation at the edges of the plywood. But at least it's not composite or plastic. It's pretty darn good for what it costs.
