Ryan: our husky prefers to be outside during the day in the winter.
we wanted to ensure he was still getting adequate water throughout the day, and we have not had any issues with this freezing over.
our winter has been mild so far, with coldest getting to -15*C, but it has been strong so far.

StephanieStephanie: I've been using these bowls for 3 years to feed and water the ferals and strays in my area.

Before these I tried K&H and another brand, but the water was always ice cold. These bowls actually keep the water warm.

I use four outside: two for water, and two for wet food--I do not put the wet food directly into the plastic water bowl.

The wet food goes in a glass or ceramic bowl set inside with water surrounding them to keep the food warm. To ensure the bowls don't shift when the cats eat, I first put tin foil in the bottom and all aroind the food bowls. It also serves to help conduct heat. It's worked very well: the food stays warm, moist and the cats eat it up.

The bowls get rained and snowed on, with no issue. The water itself stays warm and any snow melts.

I ended up buying a bowl for my cats. A stray I took in had very sparse,hard, pellet-like poops wet food and all. Since adding the heated water bowl, she drinks much, much more water and poops normally :-)
My other cats likes the warm water as well.

Anyhow, I highly recommend!

Savvy shopper: The bowl worked beautifully in the cold temperatures , zero degrees,on the enclosed back porch, but I made the mistake of submerging it and it would not heat the water above freezing after that. My mistake, I forgot that the directions cautioned against getting the entire bowl wet. so I ordered another.

AuroraAurora: I take care of multiple outside strays and we always set warm water out (which my outside babies love) but the water eventually froze up. I have purchased other bowls that work great at keeping the water from freezing but none were actually designed to keep the water warm. When I finally came across this bowl, I decided it was cheap enough to give a shot. I LOVE it...more importantly my outside babies love it! See the pictures. The stainless steel bowl is just a plain bowl and I don't know if it is visibly clear, but the water is frozen in it. The blue bowl is designed only to keep the water from freezing, so it shuts itself off if the outside temperatures are warm enough. The green bowl is this heated bowl. It has an actual 'ON/OFF' switch so you can choose to turn it back off. While it is on, the temperature does not stay a set temperature. Sometimes the water will cool off a little to be more lukewarm but it does a good job of keeping the water warm. On any given day (depending on which Tom cats show up) we have 15-18 kitties on our property. Even the feral Toms love it. I generally fill it in the morning and again in the evening but it has never gone dry...
