marlen black: I’ve heard others describe Anne as an introvert and lacking in confidence.
I however see her as being a voyeur of social behavior and sometimes disappointed in the weaknesses of her society.

WindRaven82: This one instantly took up residence in my heart when i read it and I have read it a few times now and am about to embrace the challenge of viewing its film adaptation. The angst is rife in this story in the best way. Anne is still mad in love with Cpt. Wentworth despite calling things off between them years ago. When he suddenly sweeps back into her world, she is sure he has no interest in her and he believes she still feels they are not suited for one another. Watching these 2 dance around one another trying to deny the pull is wrenching and fantastic simultaneously. Of course, as with most Austen's books there is the character or 2 that makes you want to reach through the pages to smack them and then those who if Austen was writing today would most likely answer the call to write them their own spin off book. Sadly, this title was released after her death, but it is a brilliant work. I only marked 4 stars for reading instead of 5 because I realize some youths might need to re-read a line here and there to get the gist of what is being said, but still encourage them to delve into this one. It could easily fit into a YA bookshelf today as well as die hard romance fan.

Tom Dolan: EUREKA! I have found it. I have found the key word.
The key word is ENJOY!
I ENJOY being alive. I ENJOY breathing the air. I ENJOY being able to sleep, to dream, to think, to write. I ENJOY reading books. And I especially ENJOY writing personally-revealing reviews of personally-revealing books that ignite the imagination and send the mind flying!
OK. OK. Enough about me. What about you?
Why might you want to read Jane Austen's "Persuasion"?
Why, to ENJOY the book of course!
OK. Very good. But why stop there? Why stop at the ENJOYMENT of reading the book? Why not let your mind go beyond the ENJOYMENT of reading the book? Why not keep going until you arrive at the ECSTASY of seeing, hearing, experiencing something imaginary, something ideal, something unreal, as if it were really happening right here, right now, in real life?
Sounds great! But how?
By bringing the book to life in your mind.
Yes. Yes. Yes. But how? How??
By seeing the 2007 movie “Persuasion,” starring Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones, BEFORE reading the book. That's how.
I did see/hear the movie BEFORE I read the book. And I'm glad I...

Laura's Reviews: Title: Persuasion
Author: Jane Austen
Read by: Juliet Stevenson
Publisher: Naxos Audiobook
Length: Approximately 8 hours and 43 minutes
Source: Purchased from Audible.
Persuasion is my favorite Jane Austen novel. It was published posthumously and was written at the end of Jane Austen’s life. The story is a story of second chances. Anne Elliot rejected the engagement from Frederick Wentworth eight years before. She loved the young Lieutenant Wentworth, but his wealth and consequence were not enough for her friends and family to think it a prudent marriage. She allowed herself to be persuaded out of the marriage. Now Wentworth is back as a wealthy Captain. The Elliot’s meanwhile have seen a decrease in their fortune and have to rent their estate out to Wentworth’s sister and brother-in-law while they take a house in Bath. Will they find their way back to each other?
I read Persuasion this month as it is the September book club selection for JASNA Wisconsin. I can’t wait to discuss it! I have reviewed Persuasion on this blog before as I love, love, love this book. This time I’m going to go over highlights and thoughts on had on my latest...

ADITI SAHA: You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope...I have loved none but you.”
----Jane Austen
Our most beloved author as well as one of the most widely read author of all times, Jane Austen's, last notable piece of literature, Persuasion, unfolds the story of a twenty-something woman in the early 19th century England who is caught between the choices of her heart as well as her family to decide on whether she will honor her heart's choices that once loved a man so dearly or or will she pay heed to her family's wishes who once persuaded her not to marry the one whom she loved because of his status or poor finances.
Synopsis:
Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, is a moving, masterly and elegiac love story tinged with the heartache of missed opportunities.
It tells the story of Anne Elliot, who, persuaded to break off her engagement to the man she loved because he was not successful enough, has never forgotten him. When he returns, he brings with him a tantalizing second chance of happiness.
Once the 13/14 year old version of this reviewer was so caught up in the world of literature, that she practically used to sneak in the the older...

Bookfriend: The outer appearance of these books (all the main 6 Austen novels are available)is, in my view, a disappointment. In attractive-on-the-shelf terms ...they're a flop! Each book is plain black, with the author's name clearly visible in gold lettering on face and spine - but the book titles underneath are in a variety of dark colours which have to be squinted at to be read! "Emma" is the only exception, in an attractive (and visible) blue shade of lettering. Please note: all the books are hardback - not paperback as stated in several cases. The material used is available (according to Worth Books website) in 200 colours - so why gruesome black was chosen is anyone's guess! Each book has an elastic closure, which makes them look like large notebooks. I'd have preferred an "extra" of a ribbon marker, myself. One postive thing is that the outer will be durable, which is handy if your books live exciting lives.
Maybe all this plainness is designed to contrast with what's inside? It gets better, in there!
As the description above states, these books are very informative on the history of the times, and any particular relevancies e.g. this novel gives details on the British...
