They are easy to hold and write very smoothly for learning to hand letter, which is great because you need to hold them a lot for learning! I'm excited about my hand lettering journey and these pens are most definitely playing a critical part!

James: I love the tips on these pens. The variable width from pressure and angle is fun. I also enjoy the ink flow rate. They perform a little more like a brush with ink than a regular marker. Enjoy!

sj: I bought this set of the Pentel Brush Sign Pens in 12 colors to use primarily for calligraphy and to a lesser extent in association with drawing and water color painting. For me, the tips are more soft and broad than I prefer. So, then I bought the 10-color set of Tombow Fudenosuke Brush pens - Hard Tip. For me, they work better for calligraphy. Since I now have both sets, my thoughts for a quick comparison: The Pentel colors are a little more vibrant ("brighter"), the brush is softer, and the strokes are thicker, and some of the color bled through my calligraphy practice paper onto the next page (not only onto the back of the page, but also a little on the next right-hand page in the practice book too). The Tombow Fudenosuke hard-tip color pens: a little less "bright," easier for me to use for calligraphy with finer, hard tip, and none of the color bled through to the next page (yes, on the back of that sheet -- but none on the next right-hand page in the calligraphy practice book). Hope this helps.

CABBACABBA: I’m relatively new to brush lettering. I started to get interested in the hobby while working from home during the pandemic. I practiced calligraphy as a child but the mess of fountain pens and the strict rules forced me to lose interest. I like the fact that brush lettering is more relaxed and modern brush pens are easy to use/maintain. My goal became to simply to be able to personalize cards with beautiful pensmanship. Being that my goal is to write relatively small started with a tombow fudenosuke hard/soft/twin set. I quickly found that I needed some colours to make practice less mundane and decided to order this set as they seemed to be well regarded amongst lettering enthusiasts. The Pentel Touch brush pens are perfectly suited to my goals, they are small yet flexible enoughto provide nice pressure variation. I find the stiffness to be somewhere between that of the tombow hard and tombow soft. The colours are vibrant and this kit provides a nice variety of colours.
My only 2 issues with the set I received are 1) the green marker was leaking upon arrival (not a big deal as it has not leaked since cleaning it with a tissue) 2) the labelling on my pens vary (see the...

DarknessCalls: Everyone and their sister is doing the brush lettering and bullet journaling thing these days. But the most popular pen set is the Tombow Fudenosuke. They are about ten dollars more than these. It's unfortunate that one product gets taken up by the influencers and pushed as the "must have" pen, but there need to be alternatives and I don't believe any beginner should run out dump money on products especially when you don't know a thing. Lots of learning and some affordable basics should be enough. You do not need to buy a full set of pens to learn lettering. That comes later. That's my opinion and it always will be.
But when it comes to the point where one has been practicing and is ready for a set of brush pens, the biggest names in brush lettering agree that the Tombow "Fudes" are not the only small brush pen (there are small and large Tombow Duo Tip--learn on a small!) that stand on top. There are thankfully tons of great videos showing the side by side of these Pentel and Tombow Fudes. And I'm saying with confidence that although they perform nearly the same, I like these better. For me they are the superior. They are jucier and an overall better pen. These things are...

SewnBlessings: These pens are great for drawing, but they are not for script lettering. The tip of the pen is much too rigid.
