Tek: My uncle had one of these in the 80s when I was a little kid. He called it "creepy crawly" .... Funny here I am 40 now and I just learned it's actual brand name is "Kreepy Krauly". I always just thought he called it that because of the ticking and hopping motion in the pool.
So we just bought a house with an unground pool and opened it up for the first time. We knew we were going to need a vacuum and didn't want to spend $1500+ on a Polaris or similar model. So I thought I would go searching to see if the old ticking monster was still available.
Setup was a breeze, it took about 5 minutes to put it together out of the box, and drop it in the pool. Plugged it into the skimmer basket, and was instantly rewarded with the glorious memories of childhood as it began ticking and happily winding its way around the pool....
Now that it's been running for a few weeks, I can give a more complete description. Overall it is working wonderfully with very little maintenance. Kreepy does occasionally get stuck, particularly in the 2 corners of the shallow end, but usually it is able to vibrate its way out of the corner in time. Once in a while it needs a hand...

Wayne Lipovitch: I have a kidney-shaped, deep diving, all-tile pool, so finding a cleaner that navigates the tile and actually moves out of the deep end is difficult. I have spent countless dollars on pool cleaners, and keep coming back to the original Kreepy Krauly. So when the newest version came out, I thought I would give it a try. After using it for the past couple of months, I would say I am very pleased. It does not get stuck on the steps or ladder as previous cleaners have. I have adjusted the float so that is maximally climbs the walls, which is an added bonus. It spends the majority of the time in the deep end of the pool (as most cleaners will), but about 20% of the time it will go to the shallow end, which is fine, since the majority of the debris and dirt migrates to the deep end anyway. Once a week I clean the filters, add chlorine (which I can just drop into the deep end of the pool since it doesn't stain the tile), and use a brush and net on the pool, which takes all of 10 minutes.
Some tips that seem to work for me with my Kreepy Krauly. First, I do not use any hose weights. I find that the cleaner actually moves better without any weights, and has less of a tendency to get...

Heath Brownstead: It Works. We recently had a 16x32 inground pool installed with an 8 foot deep end. I have only had the Kreepy for a couple of weeks but so far this thing is great. I had to order the extra weight since the original only came with two weights and for anything deeper than 7 feet you need 3 to make it work the best. I have been impressed with the way it maneuvers its way around the pool. It was a cinch to put together, probably took me 10 minutes and no tools. It does take at least 3 hours or so to clean the pool good. A couple of our friends have more expensive pool cleaners like the Tiger Shark, but one has the Kreepy and he convinced me to give it a try. For the money and for the things that end up in our pool, mostly just dirt and leaves, the Kreepy is perfect. Glad I saved $600 and went with the Kreepy vs the Tiger Shark so far. I don't see longevity being much of a problem either since there are such few moving parts. I don't see why this unit shouldn't last with decent care since it is mostly hard plastic. The seal could be replaced very easily and cheaply without sending the unit anywhere for repairs too. It is really simple. Just a bunch of section of hose and the hard...

MAMK_GAMAMK_GA: The Kreepy Krauly has been our preferred cleaner for decades. 30K in ground PebbelTec. We went with this vendor because they offered an '048 and yet received an '049. No apparent differences but one month in, the unit is already shedding parts. Sure, I'll reassemble it but why? This is our 3rd unit and each version wears out faster and requires more dedication to find & source the parts.
Pentair is longer providing a value product.
