A grateful reader: It helped me to make sense of suffering and pain that we go through in our lives, and to see that a positive outlook is still possible and reasonable despite challenges. It is an easy read, full of wisdom and personal insights.

Michael: On Ch 10 as a selection by my reading group. I wanted to avoid this book due to reading one of hers about 12 years ago which went too heavy on Tonglen. Now, Tonglen is modified nicely so I do like and recommend this book.
She interjects her personal shortcomings which makes this Buddhist teacher more appealing.
You can grow from this book. Thank you Pema

jg: This is the most important book I have ever read. It is spiritual but not religious. Chodron teaches how "to be the change that we want the world to be". She has taught me that simple awareness and compassion for our interconnection with other people is what can not only save me but also can save human extinction.

Amanda Erickson: I love Pema, and this is my third or fourth of her books, which tend to stay on the nightstand for a year or so. Each night, it is calming and comforting to read a few pages, and underline anything that jumps out at your consciousness. If it's been a long day, i go back and just read the highlighted parts from the previous week or something. No bad dreams after reading Pema, and once can meet the maelstrom of the world with equanimity and joy. i also love her lojong cards and the pocket Pema.

Courtney: Bought it for my wife. She read this book EVERYDAY for about 20 minutes a day until it was finished. If she wasn't busy you'd see her itching to read the book. She absolutely loved it.

Cheryl Court: The relevancy of this book cannot be overstated for our current, turbulent times. While I see this as a timeless read, there is no denying that most, if not all, humans on the planet need the wisdom found on the pages of this book. If we want a more peaceful, caring, resilient society then we all need to work on ourselves and help each other out. It starts with ourselves. I am grateful that this text exists and that I had the pleasure of reading it.

Rosa Victoriano: I chose this book as contradicting the tittle sounds, because it resonates with me and because I've been in situations of constant struggle and for more that I've tried to feel good and it didn't quite work out, but adopting this new point of view have helped me to deal with any difficult situations and in the midst of it feel at peace and learned how radically accept that, it's that it is and no matter what I deserve to be happy in a holistic way.

jpx: I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It's literally proving to be a lifesaver for me. I'd been feeling crushed by the weight of grief and fear over the state of our world and this book has brought me back some balance and hope. Its simple but profound teachings on cultivating bodhichitta are the perfect antidote to the overhwhelm triggered by the huge, unprecedented and simply insoluble challenges we face. Thank you, Pema, for being in this world and for sharing your wisdom and yourself so honestly and with such heart.
