Jerrie Wright: In Parting The Veil we find Eliza Sullivan looking for a fresh start, instead she soon finds out that the house she inherited from her aunt is haunted by the ghost of its past. The setting for this book is Victorian England. I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook, narrated by Siiri Scott, her voice is rich and expressive, she captures the atmosphere of the novel. Readers be warned that you may encounter triggers areas. The author did in her notes offer the number of 1-800-273 TALK ( 8255 ), if you need someone to help you deal with any responses that you may occur. Eliza's story will convey the emotions of grief, PTSD, and depression. She will confront guilt, denial, anger, melancholy, bargaining, and eventually.... acceptance and self-love. This audiobook's sound effects add to the overall atmosphere of the story The music is also well chosen and helps set the mood. I found the audiobook of Parting The Veil a wonderful listen. Kennedy has a novel that is well - written and suspenseful, along with the narration makes this an excellent recommendation for one's TBR list. If you love to read historical mysteries then this novel or audiobook is for you.

L. Fawcett: This is a great story, but I found it confusing as the names of two of the characters were similar.

jches20: Story was well written. The twists kept me engaged in the story, and I did not figure out some of them until the end. Great book and would highly recommend.

Dorothy: This story is reminiscent of a Jane Austen novel with an orphaned heroine becoming part of an aristocratic family, a deranged lord and a family with many secrets. Unfortunately, the author has done her research into typical English language and behaviour from some sort of thesaurus. Aristocratic characters do not use the term “darling” to anyone other than their partners or female children and not in public. Nor do they call casual acquaintances “mate”
However despite the many wrong, irritating attributions, I enjoyed the book.

FantasticallyFrugal: I really enjoyed this book! It had an engrossing plot, well fleshed out characters, a very done gothic style, and satisfying ending.
While I did guess the twist (I nearly always do) I still geniunely loved the pace, the rhythm and the interaction of the characters leading up to the climax.
I would happily read more by this author.

Fizza Younis: Or maybe I should say chilling. I enjoyed reading it but it's not as good as I had hoped. I really thought the paranormal side would be the central theme of the story but that's not the case. The haunting side of the story is more like an afterthought. Mostly, it's a tale of love, betrayal, and family secrets. My expectations notwithstanding it's an enjoyable read and I think fans of mystery & thrillers would love it. I also liked the historical setting, so that's another plus.

Julie Smith: I found this story bizarre and very disturbing. I will admit, the author did surprise me with the ending. I found myself skimming the last part of the book not be a it was so good, but because I wanted it to be over.

MM Reviewer: The dashing Malcom Havenwood is a dark gothic figure with a haunting past. He is son to Ada and brother to Gabriele who are found dead when they and their family estate succumbs to a devastating fire. However, the tortured and impoverished Malcom meets and marries Eliza with a promise of better days, for this liaison and the conditions of a will are conveniently aligned when Eliza fulfils one of the clauses in her aunts “will” by marrying within 3 months of the benefactor being made aware of its contents.
Not long into their marriage Eliza is faced with the realisation that the relationship seems to be unravelling almost as quickly as it had begun, and no matter how desperately she grasped at the threads of their affection, her weaving was proving to be an exercise in frustration. For every demonstration of affection, he lavished upon her, there soon followed a cruel word, every act of kindness was tailed with malice and for each night spent in passion, there was a day spent in uneasy silence.
Cheltenbridge was rife with gossip and warnings among the locals, of the Havenwood family but the reality was much worse for Eliza. The malevolent whispers, whether real or...
