Grace: Discovered Helen Joseph-Armstrong's book through You Tubers using it as their reference for drafting slopers. I wanted more detail than the videos could provide and this book is packed full of the geometry and principles of pattern drafting along with self-evaluation tests. It has far more detail than I had anticipated. Very much looking forward to using this book to teach myself pattern-making.

Kindle Customer: I almost never purchased this book because of what a reviewer said about it being advanced and since I am just learning to sew. But I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to follow the instructions with ease. I would recommend it to anyone. Just be prepared to be patient as you peruse

KK: It’s all about creativity and how to get there with fabric and a sewing machine.
I’ve been binge watching Project Runway lately. Naturally, it just makes you want to start sewing! And I don’t even really like to sew! That’s the really funny thing about it. Here I am though, with only minor knowledge on how to go about the whole thing. I’ve made things with a purchased pattern but that’s it.
I want to create something great and wear it!
Ohhh, this is the book for sure. If you want to create an upturned collar? The info is in this book! It’s just fantastic! It’s got every question answered. Love, love, love.

Tonny AnderssonTonny Andersson: Finally I bought this book and it arrived perfectly and delivered faster than it was planned, which was great for me. It has 920 pages. The cover is light not like the hard cover which is the more expensive option. The cover is colorful but the drawings are in black and white. I don't know if the colours of drawings depends of the type of cover(hard cover). I keep thinking on it. If someone got the book of hard cover, please let me know it.
Now I have to read and to check how much it help me to improve my technique.

Ros TamangRos Tamang: The media could not be loaded. Alright, so I just got this book: the "Pearson New International Edition, Patternmaking for Fashion Design" by Helen Joseph-Armstrong, 5th edition. Let me tell you, it's a must-have for anyone into fashion design and pattern making!
The book is super comprehensive and covers all the nitty-gritty details of patternmaking. Even if you're a newbie like me, it's easy to follow along. The author breaks down complex concepts into simple terms, which I really appreciated.
One thing I loved is the clear illustrations and step-by-step instructions. They made learning so much easier and less intimidating. Plus, there are tons of examples to practice with, which is great for hands-on learners like me.
I feel more confident in my patternmaking skills after reading this book. It's like having a patient and talented mentor guiding you through the whole process.
However, I would say that some parts can get a bit technical, but don't let that discourage you. Take it one chapter at a time, and you'll get the hang of it.
Overall, if you're serious about fashion design and want to up your patternmaking game, this book is a fantastic investment....

J.A.G.: I wanted to give a review about this book but before I do, I feel that you need to know something about my background and how it relates in my synopsis of the text. I am a freelance patternmaker that lives in New York. I have a BFA in Fashion Design and Marketing and I have been making patterns for roughly about 16 years. I have also taken some additional classes in recent years to learn new techniques and enhance previous ones I have learned. I own several other books ranging from basic patternmaking, books that specialize in lingerie patterns, and menswear pattern books. I own patternmaking software and I am currently using all the things I have learned and applying it to drafting patterns on my computer. I own two dress forms (a half scale and a standard one) and I know how to drape. I know how to sew and construct simple garments such as a t-shirt and intricate ones like bridal gowns. I also know how to do rub-offs (copy garments) and how to grade (change the dimension of a standard pattern to fit a larger or smaller person). I wouldn't call myself a know-it-all or a master at this but I would say I know a great deal more than the average Joe when it comes to making...

C. Robin: If you’ve ever wanted to know how to make anything this is the book for you.
If you see a particular sleeve you want to put on a dress but don’t know how to draft it, this book will show you. Want to do a fancy or intricate dart, this book will show you how. It’s just about the only book you need to learn how to draft any shape or style.
The only downside is the limited size range for the pattern block chart. It’s very hard to draft a block from your own exact measurements from scratch. It’s easier to draft using standard measurments close to your own, and then make small adjustments to make it your own custom block. My suggestion is to get this book, but make your own block using something like Dressmaking, The Easy Guide.
