Debra Schapiro: This book gave ME goosebumps 💜

Jennifer: I was looking for more multicultural books for read aloud in my classroom. This book is fantastic and my second graders were in awe of of the illustrations and loved seeing characters that look like them.

Travelgirl57: Like many of us, this was a moment that captured our heart. Parker and her mom tell a wonderful story about that moment, but also about what can transform, and transport us whenever we visit an art museum. I have sent this to my best friend for her young tutu loving, free-spirited granddaughter and hope to read it to my own granddaughter someday. Look up the interview/video of Parker (now 6) reading her book with commentary by her mom. It's the icing on the cake

Amber Muntz: As a classroom teacher (1st grade) I try to make sure I have lots of diverse books so that all my students are able to see themselves in the illustrations. The students enjoyed the pictures and the story. It is about a little girl named Parker who went to a museum and saw a drawing of Michelle Obama. It's based on a true story of a little girl seeing someone who looks like herself in a museum.

Amazon Customer: Gave this as a gift to one of my former students named Parker and it was my favorite thing to see her face light up! I recommend this book for anyone, but I especially love reading it to my kinder scholars and connecting it to art that they can make in the classroom. This week we made portraits inspired by Kehinde Wiley (who was commissioned for President Obama’s portrait) but I also want to see how I can make Amy Sherald’s Michelle portrait into something that my students can re-create, too! I’m thinking a special app filter or something. Anyway, this book is a great opener for an artist study or for Black History Month or before a trip to an art gallery or whenever! I loved it!
