Erica W: Huge chunks of perlite but I worry it means more is needed to keep soil aerated (concentrated perlite means less disruption throughout the soil.)

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: My local big box store ran out of the large bags of perlite very early this spring. I ended up buying 2-3 smaller bags for $18 each and decided to grab a larger bag from Amazon. This thing is... large! I got the #3 size and the chunks are larger than anything else I've used. I still have a smaller bag of smaller perlite which I think might work better for seed starting/seedlings, but this stuff is great and I've already used a lot of it with my established plants. There is some dust, but no more than what I've gotten in other perlite. I would recommend this stuff. I'm guessing I'll still have plenty left by next spring. Note: the attached photo shows $50, but the actual price I paid was $51.88...

CeceCece: Can't blame anyone but myself. Saw someone in a local plant group saying she underestimated the size of this bag, and we all had a laugh about it. I guess I somehow forgot about that post when I purchased this. When they say huge they mean huge! Here is the size of the bed next to my full grown basset hounds for scale. I guess I will try to resell some smaller portions, but the rest I think I can put to good use eventually, it will just take a while. That is even with hundreds of plants (I am propagating, repotting, and selling all the time). I guess I can't complain about MORE rather than less. It's a great value for your money, especially if you have a couple of planty friends to split with. The quality of the perlite seems good, and I think the size is appropriate for what I need it for, which is chunkifying denser soil for aroids, and semi-hydroponic growing.

kari pinckney: If you are a houseplant person and have repeatedly bought dusty perlite from bb stores and don't know why plant people say perlite is so great, you'll see why after using this. I don't worry as much about root rot the right amount in your mix will aerate, and the pieces are so large it's going to take longer to breakdown or crumble. The bag is huge around 4.5 - 5 ft tall maybe, so keep that in mind if space is limited. Its seems expensive but really for the amount in the bag compared to regular sized perlite in a store it's around the same price per pound or cu ft. Or whatever math I did to justify spending more money on plant things.
