MichaelSr: It is absolutely packed with useful information. It reminds me of my college days. The book is a little on the academic side. In our nursery we refer to it frequently.

monkey junk: Great book. Comes with pictures of insects to use as identification which I have found very useful so far. Also a lot of great growing info on about every fruit, veg, flower, tree and shrub available.

Amazon shopperAmazon shopper: This book helped me identify the issues I have had in my garden this year. It gave me organic options to take care of the problems. The colored photos are very helpful and made it very easy to identify the pest or disease I was looking for. I had a white fly issue and according to the book it recommended ladybugs; which I subsequently purchased online. They did their job well. This book is definitely a must have for any gardener.

Peggy: IMHO the most important gardening issue is protecting friends such as toads, tree frogs, bats, bees, butterflies, garden spiders, and the amazing beneficial earthworms. This book is fairly easy to follow and enjoyable to read. I am making a new raised organic garden which I will share my bounty with all creatures. I'm enjoying this book and find it a pleasure to read and become better educated so I will hopefully not do any harm to the beneficial insects. and hopefully grow the most healthy fruits and vegetables. I enjoy the photography and the style of the author.

Clair Balsley: This book has helped me figure out problems in my yard and garden several times as well as kept me from squashing helpful insects. The book has lots of images and descriptions of insects and plant problems. Sometimes I just flip through looking at the images until I spot something that looks similar to what I'm seeing on one of my plants. Then I can read to see if the image is even more likely what I'm dealing with. If it is, the book provides suggestions for fixing and preventing future problems. Or if it's something that's not a problem, then I know I don't need to do anything about it. Other times, I look up the type of plant I'm seeing the problem on. There aren't photos in the section, but since many pests and diseases affect multiple plants, it doesn't exactly make sense to include images of the same disease or pest over and over again. Besides, if the description under a specific plant sounds like what I'm seeing, I can use the index to look it up and the book usually has a photo of it in either the pests or diseases sections. I am forever grateful to the person who suggested this book.

rdalek: If you are a organic gardener and are not interested in chemicals, this is the book for you. I have not seen any mention of chemicals so far. This book starts off with information about a healthy soil. It talks about composting and cover crops to get healthy soil. From that point, it starts going into details by vegetable, fruit or nut. Once you get to a specific plant, it talks about the culture, problems for that plant, how to solve the problem organically and to avoid the problem in the future.

This book has quite a lot of pictures of pests and diseases. While some pictures are small, a magnifying glass will help since the pictures have a lot of detail Most should be fine without a magnifying glass.

This book has a lot of information in it for a fairly small book. The font used is good enough that I can read it without resorting to using a magnifying glass. If you have vision problems like I do, this should be readable.

K: I got this book recently and I have really enjoyed browsing through it.

I have found the section that has identified the pest and then describes the problems it causes and how best to get rid of it the most useful.

The first half of the book has is ordered by the type of plant that you have and tells and describes potential problems to you so you can identify what has gone wrong.

The only reason I haven't given this book 5 stars is because it is really written for the us and Canada. I don't know how much of this book is therefore irrelevant/useful. So far it's told me how to tackle them pesky slugs but I don't know whether it contains information about all of the pests in my garden. I wish I had known before ordering it (although I probably would have ordered it still).
