Carlos T.: This is the ultimate survival manual for modern-day pioneers and wannabe off-the-grid heroes. It's like the Gandalf of self-sufficiency, leading you on a journey to a world where you milk your own cows and make your own soap. Just don't be surprised if you start getting fan mail from Little House on the Prairie characters!
When I first cracked open this book, I felt like I was stepping into a time machine, traveling back to an era when people churned butter like it was a competitive sport. It's like a crash course in "How to Adult: The 1800s Edition."
The knowledge it imparts is like a collection of ancient secrets passed down through generations of hipster farmers and homesteaders. "Did you know you can make your own windmill out of twigs and a dash of elbow grease? Your ancestors totally did."
And let's talk about the illustrations. They're like a renaissance painting meets a survivalist's sketchbook. You'll find yourself studying diagrams of chicken coops and beekeeping techniques like you're about to ace an exam on 19th-century agricultural engineering.
The best part is when the book suggests you try something seemingly simple, like making your own...

Wendy K: I really enjoyed this book. I’m a city girl dreaming of life on the farm - which I know nothing about - so I found this very interesting. It did motivate me to try canning and growing vegetables and it all turned out really well.

PAUL: The illustrated edition. Each topic is covered in one to four pages, detailed and to the point. The information given here Is to get you started and and on the right path, enough to dabble; to hone your skills and to become more knowledgeable on each topic you will have to buy a book or seek info., more specific too and in depth to that topic. A great book and I can see why this book receives 5 stars. A great reference.

NB: Such an amazing work of craft and love. The pages are the thick kind, to the point where I wouldn't be concerned with one of the kids handling it a bit roughly, the way a child usually does. This edition is educational, inspiring, and it moves me when I read. I can barely put it down once I start. Thank you! A+++! Shipped fast too.
Oddly, it says it's still in shipping, but I think this is an error on the computer. It has been received! :) It's fantastic.

jackson cabisca: I thought it was well written and easy to read. but not a lot of new information for anybody who grew up in rural America. There were some gems in there though that opened up knew ways of thinking about some old problems. I'm glad I bought the book just for those.
