Coondoctor: This is my first experience with vegan fish sauce. I had a couple of recipes that called for it and I wasn't sure what to expect. It tastes great! The company sent samples of their other products, all of which were really good, especially the Ramen broth. It was a great introduction and I will continue to buy their products.

Anonymous Coward: I purchased this to go into a green chili recipe that called for standard fish sauce. I know that sounds weird, but it adds a hit of umami that really makes the chili pop. However, standard fish sauce also added a funky, stinky-feet scent undernote to the whole mess that left me more than a little bit grossed out.

This sauce adds the umami I want without the funk.

Note, however, that I think this sauce is not nearly as flavorful as the real stuff. It's mostly just salt and a dose of glutamates. It adds an umami kick, but not much else. If you *need* fish sauce, then you probably shouldn't be vegan :) But if you just need to kick up the umami in a dish without messing up the scent and flavor too much, this seems like a pretty good option.

Gus M.: I'm not a cook by trade, but I regularly cook for church groups and fund raisers (12-100 meals, usually), and people look forward to my turn cooking. I'm omnivorous usually, but we had a mission feeding on Ash Wednesday, so I converted my Thai red curry recipe to be vegetarian - and it was just as good! Checking ingredients, the fish sauce and flat bread were the only things keeping it from being vegan, so I thought I'd take those last steps for a vegan alternative July's fundraiser dinner. I did a test cook using this product at the house, and wasn't really pleased. Testing afterwards, my nose told me it was this sauce - the smell is only slightly different than fish sauce, but not nearly as intense. I doubled the quantity (1 tsp per 1 cup serving vs 1/2tsp per 1 cup serving) in some leftovers, and that turned the trick! I also found a great vegan tandoori flatbread, so the July fundraiser is on, with both chicken and vegan options!

Amazon Customer: Love this sauce, the company is also so generous and includes samples of their broths in their orders. The sauce is delicious and has a kinda fishy flavor to it and some good saltiness to it as well. Really love it as a dipping or stir fry sauce. It is now my go-to dumpling sauce and greatly prefer it to soy in most recipes. However, it isn’t really funky enough to meet my needs for South East Asian cooking. Vegan24’s incredibly expensive vegan fish sauce is the best in that realm, but, incredibly expensive. If you are fine with leaving out some of the really funky part of fish sauce, or don’t want to pay an arm and a leg, Ocean Halo’s No Fish Sauce is by far the winner. Even if you’re looking for a more traditional fish sauce tasting condiment, I’d still buy this. Thank you Ocean’s Halo for your great work and amazing company.

Side note, their pozole broth is to die for. My dad is Mexican and recently had to go vegan for health reasons and was blown away. Best free sample
