Marie Curie: Ordinary People Change the World by Brad Meltzer is a must-have book for any child interested in physics. It is printed with high-quality materials, has a durable binding, and contains easy-to-read and easy-to-understand pages. With this book, your child will learn about the incredible achievements of Marie Curie and be inspired to make their own mark on the world.RooZillah: This book does a nice job of presenting biographical detail, but unfortunately this book also spends an unnecessary amount of time whining about how unfair it was that women were not once admitted to universities and that Marie Curie was not permitted to speak to the Nobel audience. If it could have left this preaching aside and just presented the historical facts, there would be room for parents and teachers to talk about these historical inequalities. It is an unfortunate side effect that the lesson is not that Marie Curie was an amazing scientist, but that she was an amazing scientist despite the fact that apparently no men but her husband and father were supportive of her learning and career. Other downfalls: glorification of impoverished student life (it was hard but the "BEST time" of Curie's life--I would be curious to know what memoir Meltzer lifted that gem from) and the art is jarring. It is frustrating to get to the end of the book to find Curie in a lineup with other female scientists who have semi-realistic portraits and what is Marie looking like? The signature goofy portrait through the whole book. Positives: there is much here to like and enjoy--the information...

stephan: This is an outstanding book. My granddaughter loves science, so a well written and illustrated biography about Marie Curie was just perfect for her age. In fact, I think most 5 to 8 year olds and their parents will enjoy reading this book. All the “Ordinary People Change the World”
biographies have been outstanding. This is one of our favorites from the series of books about famous people like Marie Curie. So far, the books about Marie Curie and Leonardo da Vinci have been our favorite biographies in this series.
