Okuma Celilo Graphite Lightweight Rods for Trout Fishing

jared ayala: bought it about a year ago and its still going, the tip is still on it after hitting so many branches. I have also reeled in some bass with it.

GarrisonGarrison: I first purchased this rod for trout fishing like three years ago and it was great, very light feel and strong. Accidentally got it stuck in my car door and broke off the tip so I ordered another as a replacement.

The replacement arrives and on the second cast it snaps in half right in my hands, frustrated I go to make a warranty claim….

They make you pay to ship the broken rod to their facility, which is not cheap, on top of a $20 dollar “warranty fee” which totals more than the price of the rod brand new.

In review, it’s a great rod if you don’t get a dud that snaps right away and don’t bank on the warranty, it’s a scam.

Nikolai T.: Paired with an Okuma reel, nice ultralight rod. I struggle with accuracy. Would be nice if the taper we’re a little more progressive along the length (rather than just being pretty darn thin everywhere) to offer more control. That said it means you can load this rod with some pretty light lures. And accuracy isn’t totally diminished, there still is some accuracy but you’ll need to practice if you’re used to a medium rod.

Nick and Mads: First off, Amazon is absolutely terrible at shipping fishing rods and this is why one star was deducted. The first time I ordered one it arrived essentially crushed, loose in a big box. Eventually I ordered another one and it arrived intact. The rod is extremely whippy, after all these are moderate action ultralight trout rods. The reason trout rods tend to be so whippy is you are using light line (2lbs, 4lbs) to catch decent size fish, so you need the cushion your line can't provide. I have had no issue getting 2-3lb stockers in my net with this rod and a Daiwa Revros LT1000. It will cast 1/64oz jigs farther than most other offerings. This rod is NOT a jigging rod, far too whippy.

SamSam: not worth the money. broke while casting. i don't fish alot... the rod was not hitting anything against it. it just poor quality.

jetyi: The best aspect of this rod is the blank. As an ultralight, the tubular blank can really ping light lures a great distance. It makes it a joy to fish. It has no problem keeping trout and small panfish pinned.

There are a few niggly things though. The grips are EVA with cork laminate which is really disappointing and the guides are really cheap. It makes little sense when a reasonable quality set of guides could be had that would elevate the overall quality of the rod for little more cost if at all.

I broke 4 guides including the top within a week and have replaced them with a better set. I would purchase another rod if it had a real cork grip, but I think I will look elsewhere. It's disappointing that this nice blank has been fitted with subpar components.

Josh Littles: I just got this rod in the mail 8 hours ago and fished with it for 3 1/2 hours and had a blast. My other ultralight rod was a 5' one part of an 18$ combo from Walmart and it felt like it too. I'd try to toss a worm on a size 8 hook with 4lb test to let it slowly sink down in front of a dam and I'd have to REALLY work at tossing it out like 8 feet. This rod, being 1 1/2 feet longer, on the other hand I was able to throw out the same worm + hook + line like 20+ feet and I'm pretty sure once I get better at loading up the rod I can get it out there even further.

After catching a few panfish like that I put on the smallest splitshot I had, which was like a quarter of the size of my pinky fingernail, and let the worm sink to the bottom and hopped it around. Now on my other rod I could mostly tell when something was 'pecking' at whatever was on my line and when something 'bit' it because the 'pecking' was a very very slight jiggle and the bite was a jiggle that had a little umph to it. But with this rod even when they're just 'pecking' at it it taps the rod twice as hard than the 'bite' on my other rod. So I missed quite a few fish due to the rod being too sensitive if that's a...
