The Forgetful Traveler: The instruments are inexpensive, but NOT cheap. Construction is probably not durable enough for use in a school music program, but it's adequate for home use. The pieces are nicely painted and come in a bag, making them an excellent gift for 1yo to Kindergarten-aged children.

UPDATE: After three months of use, I can give a more detailed review. The xylophone is horribly out of tune...or at least it's not tuned to the tempered scale. It's not even tuned to a mode. It's just terrible. I have relative pitch and the beast makes me cringe. The recorder only has 6 holes, so it can't play a full octave, AND it's not tuned either, though a lot closer than the xylophone. If you buy this bundle, just plan on replacing those pieces at some point--immediately if you're trying to train your little one to pitch. That aside, these instruments are my son's favorite toys at present. The paint is holding up to daily, day-long use. The remaining instruments are pretty good, especially considering the price. The tambourine and triangle are excellently made. Everything fits well in 1-year old hands. The rhythm eggs are currently his favorites.

Amazon Customer: The media could not be loaded.  My baby just loves it! We are introducing her to one instrument per week and she just loves each one of them!
The only reason I don’t give it five stars is because each item is wrapped in plastic, so there’s a lot of plastic (not baby safe, not eco friendly), so I suggest using paper to wrap the items individually.
Other than that the kit is a great purchase, great value and definitely a great gift!
No batteries, no fuss, just some real materials for my baby to explore and learn cause and effect and music!

Kmom: The media could not be loaded.  As a music teacher, I'm fussy about what instruments I get for my children. This is a beautiful set, with pieces that are otherwise hard to find. There is a lot here.

My favorite piece is probably the fish wood block, which has a great sound and fits nicely in the hand.

The kids love dancing with the bells on their ankles.

The paint on all of the wood pieces is nice and thick and can handle enthusiastic playing.

I put most of the percussion pieces straight into my music collection, but the flute, glockenspiel, and a few other small things will be future stocking stuffers. I'm impressed with the value that I've gotten from this set.
