JTC: My cats love the salmon flavor. One cat follows me and meows until he gets it. He takes a very small pill twice daily and this makes pilling a breeze. I just put the gel on my finger, stick the pill in it and he laps it up. I don't know that it helps with hairballs but it is worth it for the pilling success!

Susan Gerrard: Nutri-Vet Hairball Paw-Gel for Cats, Chicken Flavor, 3-Ounce Excellent product. It is not a gel it is a cream that you put on your pet's paws to lick off. This prevents hairballs.

Erica: It works but I have to battle him to get him to eat it. It may be that he doesn’t like the flavor though because he will turn his nose up at certain treats too.

Sum: One cats loves it and is happy to have it whenever and the other doesn't like the smell so avoids it, I'm not entirely sure if it's helped regarding their digestion

Selah: This product has a texture similar to pouch treats, and mixing them together was the key to success. My cat wouldn’t eat this paste by itself. She didn’t recoil as if it smelled bad like other products, but it didn’t seem to have enough flavor/scent for her to even be interested. I tried smearing it on her paw but she just walked off defiantly leaving dirty prints behind!

Amazon Customer: Spring is when a cat sheds the MOST! That can leed to impacted hair balls in a cats Colin. Not good! Add to that cats don't always get enough water.
I applied this and rubbed in very well on the her top of paw and leg. That way she couldn't flick it off. I did this 2x a day. I also cut out ALL dry food. I also put 1 teaspoon of coconut oil in her wet food. I also added water to the wet food so it's like a soup.
This hairball treatment did get things going! Keep you cat on wet food. Slowly, over a period of a week or more, resume normal feeding.
Hope this helps!

Junie B: Our cat had several episodes of throwing up hairballs. We subsequently tried the salmon flavored Nutra Vet hairball gel. It was effective and seemingly without side effects. Our cat likes the flavor and has been licking 1/4 of a teaspoon of it approximately 6 days per week. We have been giving it to Mallory once daily, unless her stool has been soft, in which case we skip a day. I recently investigated the toxicity of benzene, which can be formed when the ingredients of sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) are both included within a product. Both of these ingredients are in this brand of hairball gel. Benzoate acid is naturally found in some foods such as apples, tomatoes, plums, and cinnamon. Sodium benzoate is man-made and is commonly used as a preservative, as it inhibits the growth of potentially harmful bacteria. Sodium benzoate is also used in some cosmetics, medicines, and other products. Reportedly he United States allowable amount of benzene is 5 ppb (parts per billion), with a few US states and with some countries deeming only 1ppb to be safe. Exposure to heat increases potential for production of benzene in greater amounts within the product.
