National Hardware Anti-Sag Gate Kit N109-060 in Black Finish

DRW: Been putting off building three gates to keep my dog on our deck. Saw these and hoped it would give me the motivation to get them built. IT DID! It was relatively easy once we figured out our design and bought all the wood. These thing sure do make for a nice square gate. Highly recommend!

SnflgusSnflgus: Yes, with a little effort and re-engineering, these even work for sagging spindle gates. Yay!

Yes, I did have to remove the gate, take it apart, cut off a little gate length, remove some spindles and re-assemble it. Whew! Well worth the effort to reap the benefits of a functioning, non-sagging gate.

The only challenge was determining what to do with the gaps that the corner braces created that were previously filled by the now-removed spindles. I needed to make sure that neither our dog nor any visiting children could wiggle through.

The easiest/best solution would have been to add a couple of 1x3 boards to the outside of the frame, but I didn’t have any on-hand. Soooooo… I went the hard route and ended up carving out two 2x4’s to fit around the corner braces.

I’m very happy with these braces and the improvement they’ve made to our spindle gate.

Blinds: It seems sturdy enough and could have been simpler to install. However, I had to replace the screws because the ones they provided were not good quality and they were slightly out of square. With a little bending and new screws, it works well and should hold up nicely. I would buy again despite this.

Mr Huskey: I have used this kit on 3 separate occasions. The first two gates that I built were for my mothers back yard dog pen. One gate was 36" wide while the other gate was 62" wide. She had me use vinyl lattice to finish off both gates. Once she painted the 2x4s to match the lattice, both gates looked great. So far there has been no problems with sagging on either gate. This 3rd kit I used to build a gate for my own goat pen. I used 2x6 treated lumber to finish it off which made it extremely sturdy & heavy. I am happy to report the hinges and framing from this kit are doing an awesome job of holding that gate up and level as well.

Robert J. Betker: I purchased this gate kit to replace an old hand-made gate that had started to sag over year's of use and abuse and I am very happy with it. The instructions were easy to read and understandable. It took my son and I about 90 minutes to measure, cut, fasten and install the gate. We took our time since I was having him do most of the work and trying to explain things as we went along; otherwise, 2 reasonably handy people could probably do an install in about an hour. All of the brackets were square, no problems with anything out of alignment or bent. My only concern is the length of the screws especially for the ones that attached the hinges to the gate post, I thought they were on the short side, about 1-5/8". I ended up using some #8 x 3-1/2" screws that I had on the outside holes of the hinges to ensure that they would hold. I need to replace another gate on a different section of fencing and I will happily use this kit again.
