Kristine B: Not great at drawing with regular pencils. With these charcoal pencils, I swear they draw for me! I am way better than I thought m. These just control more than a pencil and help by allowing light and dark lines with change of pressure. The charcoal seems to grip the paper to make lines flow better. Haven't used other brands but love these. They don't really sharpen well with a hand sharpener. I suggest an electric one ~KB
