Candy RCandy R: i’ve been a fan of MDZS for a year & 4 months now & i’ve ALWAYS longed for the novels, I still can’t believe I have it right in front of me!! I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming T-T lol, but it’s finally here & I can’t wait to FINALLY read it after waiting for what felt like an eternity (ofc nothing compared to what lwj felt but yk). The novel came quick in 2 days much faster than I expected but i’m really glad it did🥹 & im definitely gonna buy more of the novels in the future, this is just the beginning!!

Rho: Ho letto il libro dopo aver visto l’anime e devo dire che i personaggi rispecchiano le caratteristiche che si sono apprezzate durante la versione animata. Lan Zhan è meraviglioso: paziente ma non più ingenuo, forte e risoluto. Inoltre, sebbene parli molto poco, si percepisce fin dall’inizio, dai suoi monosillabi e dai suoi comportamenti, cosa provi per Wei Wuxian. Il primo volume invoglia a continuare la lettura.

Karissa: It's been a long while since I've picked up a book but when my friend raved about this series and after watching some of the anime with her I had to give it a try. I finished this in a day, I couldn't put it down. I'm a sucker for a good reincarnation story with a great cast of characters, and a fan of beautiful slow burn love and this does it perfectly. The illustrations are all so gorgeous (one of my favorites in this book is the colored picture of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji meeting for the first time in 13 years) and the glossary and name guide are super helpful and interesting to learn about. If you're looking for a slow burn gay romance with an amazing story and world building I highly recommend giving Grandmaster a try.

The story follows the adventures of Wei Wuxian, a cultivator who has been mysteriously resurrected 13 years after his own death, and is split between the events happening to him in the present time and several flashbacks to events that happened in the past that ultimately lead to his death. The real mystery though is why his old acquaintance Lan Wangji is being so nice to him...

This book is hard to quantify, because it is on the one hand a lighthearted, fluffy danmei (bl) love story about two friends with romantic tension on an adventure to solve a mystery, and on the other a deeply painful story about a traumatized person trying live on despite the terrible things that have happened to him, partly due to his own actions and partly due to circumstances beyond his control. Is Wei Wuxian a happy fool or a tortured genius? Was he a selfish villain or a tragic hero? Who is telling the truth about the past and who is lying?
