Bill Bailey: First off, don't leave negative reviews if you don't understand/know what wild rice is (oh, and you are so surprised it is a grass and then tell others about it like you found out a secret). You look like a dolt when you leave two-star reviews that, basically, reduce to: "Oh, it's not Uncle Ben's (or, now, Ben's) rice mix!" I understand buyer's remorse. But you should leave a review of yourself, not the product. Bad batch? Sure. Bad packaging? Sure. But not your own willful ignorance of a product.
Second, this is the real deal. Nutty flavor. Slightly off-putting smell while cooking it (but that is what wild rice smells like when you are cooking it). And the instructions are spot-on: 45-60 minutes; 3x water (or stock) to 1x rice (per cup). The result? A toothsome (I hate that word) substitute to actual rice and a better overall product than most of those mixes that include real rice and a small percentage of the wild stuff.
But, third, what is up with the pricing? I got mine for around $31. Went to write my review and now it costs 38.78?!?! Is surge pricing a thing with wild rice? Was there a wild rice warehouse fire in the past three days? I mean, I get it: A/B...
