K. D. Roach: We use these to communicate in an area with iffy cell phone signals, and so that we can communicate with our kids (they do not have phones). It has a range, in my area, of 2100 feet and the communication is clear. If someone goes into a metal building then the signal becomes more distorted. When in a metal building communication is still very possible, it is just not as clear. You may have different results and we are not professional radio people, but these are perfect for us.

busakisama: I purchased this for some short range communications in town with my friends who don't have GMRS licenses. Battery life is really good so far, they will last hours and only have a little drain on the batteries. To be fair though we aren't constantly talking, it's mostly checking in several times an hour. Line of sight range on high power mode is good at several hundred yards. One location we're using is inside a poured concrete and steel structure and even then on high power mode we're able to communicate hundreds of yards away with people outside in their cars.

Only downside (with all recreational radios) is using them in the city you are sharing the same frequencies with anyone else on recreational channels so sometimes we have multiple people on the channel before we agree on who will take which channel. But if you're taking these camping or hiking this will likely not be an issue.

Overall this is a great product for recreational use.

JOHN DJOHN D: My wife had fallen.
She can get out of bed, but needs me to help her get up and help her walk.
I was using Alexa, but then the internet went down.
Alexa occasionally announces things that have no meaning to me.

I live in a housing development near a small town.
I scanned the channels and found no one on any of them..
I choose channel 11.
I did not have to use the extra tones, since there were no others on any channel.
On low power it will talk inside and outside.

The volume is probably too low, to hear when I am riding on my mower.
I can sort of hear it, but not well enough to know for sure.
The mower make a lot of noise.
I have to turn it off, if someone comes up to talk to me.

We live in a brick house.

Midland LTX630VP3 is a pretty good radio. I like the 2 year warranty and the screen is large enough for my old eyes to see the channel number. I choose yellow on black for the case. Midland is a recognized name in handheld FRS radios. I did not need a GMRS license, because I was not going to talk very far. I think about 2 miles is all that it will talk on an open field. 30 miles is mountain top to mountain top, if the...

Christophe: I like Midland products. I find that they are generally better than Motorolla's cheap radios.

* The FCC ID of this radio is MMALXT600PA. An Internet search for a test report reveals that max transmit power is 450mW on FRS and 740mW on GMRS. *

I use these around the house and they have great clarity. So far they seem to be great "cheap" radios. They came with rechargeable packs, which is convenient for when the kids leave them on and let the batteries die. When these fail. I'll use rechargeable AAAs.

PRO:
- Small, light and easy to use.
- Good clear sound.
- All sounds can be disabled, including the power-on beeps.
- DCS or CTCSS tones can be used to reduce interference.
- Radios really snap into the charging base. This is great. Much better than relying on gravity.

CON:
- The extra channels 23 through 36 aren't new channels. They are pre-programmed with a mix of FRS and GMRS channels with a digital or analog squelch tone. Confusing for someone using two different radio models.
- Scanning takes you through these "extra" channels as well, so scanning through the 22 real channels takes longer.

Low power FRS channels are 8-14....
