Drone Man: If you want to take your musical knowledge to the next level read this book. Some of the information you may never use but it is sure nice to know it. I have been playing the guitar off and on for 30 years and I finally took the time to learn more about theory to break through to new spaces in my playing. I feel this book builds on some of the knowledge I already had and packages it into applicable pieces.

Michel: A good book to learn about music theory, it really goes from basics to an advanced level. As it's packed with information, be prepared for some very intense and contentful learning sessions.

Despues de revisar multiples opciones en Amazon me decidi por "How To Read Music: For Beginners - A Simple and Effective Guide to Understanding and Reading Music with Ease (Essential Learning Tools for Musicians Book 2) " de Nicolas Carter.
In summary, by far this is the best music theory book for my selftraining in music.
Thanks Nicolas

Niels Vaillant: I realy do like the sympatic writing style, and how relaxed each topic is explained and than build upon.
And I did learn a lot from this book
BUT
By times I get the feeling the author doesn't understand the math behind it. His explanations of overtones are not logical and partly plain wrong. I think wenn you don't try to understand the math you can work with the rules he gives you but his trying to explain something he clearly doesn't really understand himself (yes he knows how you work with it not how it works)
And the the images....... with the third explaining image direkt in the simple beginning of the basics I just could think WTF. Under the picture it descibes how a change in amplitute doesn't affect it's frequency with a picture in wich clearly the amplitute AND the frequency are changed in the second half.
This runs troughout the book with a lot of images are not making clear but confusing.
The way he displays fretboards with points makes me think he never had a guitar in his hands.
He wrote some guitar books too so this is probably not the case :-)
Most of those "wrong" images were just confusing but in the overtone section the images together with...

Mr C Drury: I'm over three quarters of the way through this now and feel that's enough to post a review.
I bought this as a Kindle purchase and feel the book is well worth the money. This would also apply to the slightly more expensive paperback format. However, there a few things about the book I found quite annoying, though I am glad I perservered with it. Firstly, I don't profess to be an expert on grammar, but I like text to read as though it were being said out loud in a plain manner. Throughout this book, the definite and indefinite article are frequently dropped, so I found myself constantly being tripped up by "the, an, a" being missing. The author write sentences, such as "Play A chord", rather than Play an A chord". Ironically, the rhythm of the text is broken by this.
Secondly, the early section on "Music Theory Fundamentals" contains a discussion of the physics of sound and pitch which could have been more concisely and better written. In fairness the author points out the section can be skipped, though there are a couple of nuggets in there which make the inclusion of this section quite sensible. Though at this point in the book, I did wonder whether I should bother...
