Glashtin: The batteries are way to expensive when compared to other brands. They also don't last very long. But with fresh batteries this saw is as good as my gas power one. Starts right up and cuts great as long as you start the blade before touching the wood. Weight is about the same as my gas one with batteries installed. It is my go to saw now when the batteries are charged.

R. Forsting: This 16 inch Makita chainsaw is the bees knees. Because it uses 2 batteries, it has a crap ton of power. I love the way you just slip in a fresh set when needed and go. No gas or mixing fuels, fumes or noise like a gasser. I own a 20 inch Makita gas powered and that thing is a beast when I need to cut the really big stuff. I also own a Makita 10 inch battery powered and it’s great for the really small stuff. But this is the one I grab when there’s general cuttin’ to be done. Handles well, good balance, not too heavy. Easy enough to clean. Highly recommend.

Lisa KirkonisLisa Kirkonis: I wanted a saw to limb some cedars and mesquites, and my arborist friend recommended this saw to me.
At first, I thought he was crazy, recommending a battery powered chain saw.

Turns out, he was right. This is a great little saw, as long as you aren’t doing anything heavy.
Cedars and mesquite weren’t a problem at all, most of my work was about 8” diameter, and this little saw cut right through it without issue.
I was unable to find the Makita bar oil, but used Husqvarna oil, works just fine.
The batteries last longer than I had expected, but you’ll probably want another set or two, so that you can keep working while the others charge. Wouldn’t hurt to have a spare chain or two as well, you can sharpen chains after a day of cutting.

While this isn’t a professional grade saw for heavy duty tree work, it should suit the average homeowner well. No mess, no fussing around with a gas saw, just a good tool that’s ready to work when you are.

Boothe: I've been running gas powered chainsaws for nearly 50 years. I've used corded electric chainsaws from time to time in the past and frankly I wasn't impressed. When I retired I had a LOT of pruning to do on our place and wasn't looking forward to pull starting my compact arborist saw while up a tree. So after watching numerous videos and reading countless reviews I settled on this saw as the best value currently available on the U.S. market. I'm glad I did.

This saw is not a "toy"! It cuts every bit as fast as my 33cc gas powered top handle saw. That being said, it's every bit as heavy; there's no free lunch. I purchased this with a 16" bar mainly because it was $5 cheaper than the 14" model. I'll be putting a shorter bar and chain on it for better maneuverability while climbing. On the ground it has performed wonderfully on hard firewood up to 10" diameter including oak, ash and Osage Orange. I haven't tried it on anything larger yet. Battery life is good and the batteries recharge quickly with the supplied charger. I did buy a spare set of batteries separately and that was a wise decision.

The one con I've encountered is it does not have the...

kendra: I was looking for a convenient way to replace my Stiel170 that I have used for over 15 years, mostly for property maintenance, pruning and removing trees around 12” to 16” in diameter. I purchased this after some research and review reading here on Amazon. After removing four 18’ tall pines and pruning many 4” to 8” limbs, I would estimate around 10 hours of time on the saw my conclusion is as follows. The top handle is excellent for single handed operations, really a great choice for climbing and close cutting on a ladder. The saw with batteries weighs about the same as my Stiel 170. Power is great for limbs up to 8” (hardwood) and I believe it would cut thicker limbs as well without any problems. When removing stumps it tends to bind up and loose power though (stumps 16” or larger) small stuff no problem. I did remove 4 pine stumps around 16” and it took about 30 minutes per stump and also required charging the batteries to finish, it DID cut fine but took longer due to the saw binding and stopping.
Buy a extra set up batteries, you won’t regret it. The bar tends to loosen up easily at first but after breaking in and identifying how...
