If you wanted a child to be able to situate each Mosaic law into a real life premise applicable to real world conundrums, the 42 Laws of Ma'at would give real insight into the angles of light that disperse across each commandment. Furthermore, Latonya spends the rest of the book speaking from the heart about how to apply these principles to your ethics and moral outlook.
If you told the child this was an ordinary person speaking from the heart about their experience of Ma'at, I think the book would suffice as a great bridge between the original source material of the Commandments and the modern Biblical account we have which is surely a refinement of these same laws.
