woogie: I just got delivery of my glass mat. I've been wanting to try it out for several years but always thought a glass mat would break and would be a waste of money and an insult to my intelligence. After getting this installed which was a breeze ( it is very heavy-takes two women) I've got to say "why didn't I do this years ago. It is so much better than those plastic ones that there is just no comparison. My chair rolls so easy around my desk, it's a breeze. I'm now beginning to feel a little more comfortable to walk on it without its breaking. I still don't know about the sturdiness and durability but I'm hoping for the best. I immediately ordered 2 more for other desks. Give it a try. I think its got a 5 year warranty.

James GordonJames Gordon: This is exactly what I wanted. It's thick and doesn't slide on my carpet. My chair rolls easily on its surface. It has a beautiful surface.

Be aware: Heed the warning enclosed in the box. It is tempered glass and will shatter if it comes into contact with metal. Don't let metal objects hit or fall onto the glass.

The glass is thick. Don't roll off the edge of the mat.

The packaging did a good job of protecting the glass during shipment, but my microplastic footprint skyrocketed with all the polyurethane (Styrofoam) in the packaging. I think fluted cardboard would protect just as well without pollution from plastics.

JMcB: Like most people, i've struggled for years with pretty much every flavour of plastic chair mat known to man -- a couple of which were supposed to be high-end "last-forever" options. And after seeing the damage done to all of them, I was, like many people, a little dubious about the thought of rolling around on a piece of glass. Well, all I can say is that this is no ordinary piece of glass. It is thick, perfectly clear and very strong tempered glass. Think automotive windshield. I've been using it for many months now on a carpeted home office floor, including a couple of times when I rolled off the edge, which I was afraid might damage it. Nope. It still looks brand new. When I ordered it, I followed advice I saw online, and also ordered replacement softer chair wheels designed for hard surfaces, which may be part of the equation, but they were not at all expensive. At the end of the day, the Lorell chair mat is definitely a premium option, but there's absolutely nothing else that can touch it for smoothness and toughness. The only word of caution I would add is to take it very easy the first few days as you get used to the combination of wheels and chair mat that is pretty much...

Cheryl: I bought this chair mat over three years ago. I wanted to give it time to see how well it held up, but then I forgot all about writing a review at all, so here I am three and a half years later!

This chair mat is an excellent product. It's a nice, solid weight (not flimsy) and very clear. I definitely have put it through its paces. I sit here at my desk for hours every day, rolling from one side to another, and it has held up perfectly. I even roll a little off the side once in a while which makes an awful, scraping sound, but the mat hasn't chipped even a little bit. I haven't dropped an anvil on it, but I have dropped a big, metal stapler and it didn't chip or crack in the slightest.

This mat is very comfortable to roll on. It's nice and smooth and the chair just glides across. What I hate most about plastic mats is that, eventually, an indentation will form and the casters give some resistance when you try to roll away from it. This chair mat being glass, it's solid and sturdy and creates a solidly even surface no matter what.

To clean, I just spritz some Windex on it and wipe it clean, and it looks brand-new again.

I wish I'd started buying glass...

A.N. Other: Have had this tempered glass chair mat for three weeks and was surprised that its forty pounds was much easier to install than expected. Being tempered 0.25" thick glass it's not about to bend and break in the hands, not did pushing a wooden filing cabinet over its side indicate any stress. Inadvertently a large screw driver fell 28" with a bit of crack onto its surface from my desk after a few days which impacted my nerves more than the undamaged glass.

So far this is therefore one handsome, practical, forgiving chairmat on which the deskchair does not leave grooves and only wish had not been so nervous about thin glass under my feet and bought it years ago. My only other regret is not having bought the larger size as the surface is so smooth that I want to use it to access a larger area.

lynda walker: Tried a couple mats of thick plastic but they still ended up with grooves from the chair rollers so after reading reviews I decided to try the glass mat and it has been awesome.

sharkbait: I originally got this as an exploratory splurge buy, using the "work from home" equipment allowance offered by my employer during 2021. I was a bit worried about the durability, but this looked really cool and seemed like it would outclass the plastic mats that I had before.

For the first few week, I was scared to even step on it. It would make these horrible cracking sounds and I felt like it was going to end up as a pile of shards.

Then, one day, I dropped my metal keys on it. Looking down in horror, I saw a mat that was ...totally fine. I jumped up and down on it a few times. Nothing. Two years later, and I've dropped all kinds of stuff on it - heavy metal pens, silverware, shoes - I even stepped on it with bicycle cleats once. It took all of this like a champ, and these days it doesn't even make the cracking sounds.

Now for the not-so-good:
1. It's a nightmare to clean. The little stickies they ship with this have an adhesive that gets gummy and slides all over after 6-8 months. And dust gets underneath the metal thing, meaning you have to lift it up to clean it (though, regular glass cleaner and paper towels work great). Eventually I just removed the...

Brad: I know - you're sitting there reading these reviews about the glass chair mat & wondering how it could ever stand up to any sort of abuse. I was skeptical too. Like many others, I was done with the garbage plastic mats that all seem to break down over time. Not to mention they are never totally flat on top of a carpet. The solution? Yes - a glass chair mat!

Many of you will be amazed & happy with this purchase. I'll be perfectly honest - I'm a fat old dude using this on top of a plush carpet. It's solid. While I don't recommend it, I have accidentally dropped large & heavy metal objects on the glass mat. It survived, and didn't chip. However, you have to be very careful & understand glass. Glass isn't perfect - all glass has micro-fractures. It's possible I've begun to compromise my glass chair mat, and one day it could shatter. I'm not going to blame this on the mat - it was my own carelessness for dropping stuff on it. So far, it has taken some abuse, as well as general wear & tear. I'm very pleased with it, and will purchase another if this one ever breaks. My only gripe - being smooth glass, it has a tendency to creep over time on top of the soft...
