IdlePants: Never had the original, but used the previous g400s. Good for a palm gripper and better cable than the g400s. Only problem is that the surface is glossy which is bad if you have sweaty hands while gaming.

Richard Guenette: I was initially very excited to hear about my favourite mouse returning into the market once again. I was looking forward to having my 4th MX518 hooked up to my Win 10 machine. The box described it was the same as previous versions but better as it was suited for gaming performance.
The mouse had that identical feel as my other 3 MX518 for my other PCs and the MX510 before them. I was extremely disappointed to learn it does not have the same operating functions of my other older MX518 however. There are many functions I can not configure for productivity as with my Setpoint s/w with the others. This is a gaming mouse but I do not use it in that capacity, so unable to comment on those functions. My favourite mouse with the best feel and ergonomics yet unable to configure it same as my previous ones. This leaves me disappointed. The instructions also said to go to website and download the s/w for it but this was confusing and needed to try many before knowing which one would work. This I found time consuming & frustrating. The s/w does automatically update itself with the latest gaming updates and settings but does me no good. I need one that is geared towards productivity...

Jeff: You have probably already read how great of a gaming mouse this is. Like others, I used it in the 2000s as my main gaming mouse. It's really a nice mouse. But, these days I work from home and keep having my mice loose tracking on me. I write code for a living, and I don't need much from a mouse. But, I need it to track correctly. Unfortunately, the standard logitech wireless ones I keep buying, keep loosing its tracking.

Thing is, I still have my old 518 from 2007 ish. Guess what? It still works. No tracking issues and I put that thing to work on a nightly basis for years. But, the middle mouse doesn't scroll so I needed a new one. So to avoid having to buy another mouse too soon, I decided to get my old standard and pickup the 518.

The new design works just fine, but be sure you are right handed. Does anyone use a mouse with their left hand? Not sure, but this mouse was designed to be used with your right hand. Its got the perfect indent for your thumb which is one of the great features. Its a perfect fit.

It doesn't have the nice rubber anymore, but that's not a big deal. Its cheaper now so thats fine. Sensitivity buttons above and below the middle mouse...

Hresvelgr: Call it what you want, the MX518/G400/G400S/MX518 Legendary keeps coming back for good reason: it's a dead simple mouse with no frills and a whole lot of heft for those with hands on the larger side (And by hands I mean hand, lefties are left out on this design unfortunately) or those that prefer their mice to have some weight. Set the DPI to 800, turn the polling rate to 1,000 Hz, turn off smoothing and acceleration and you've got a mouse FPS junkies have been trusting for 15 years.
As always, the thin cable is the weak spot on this line, but having used a G Pro for 3 years with the heavy braided cable constantly getting stuck on everything without it being bungee'd up, I'd rather just be gentle with a thinner and lighter cable.
Pros:
+Ergos, size and weight best described as "It's chonk." Those with larger hands or those that like to rest their hand on the mouse will come back to this mouse like a long lost friend. This has to be Logitech's longest running gaming mouse both in years and number of refreshes.
+Unlike the G Pro, that heft helps it to not be bullied by its cable. The thin, rubber cable also doesn't get stuck on things nearly as much as the Pro's braided...

Chimera: It feels just as i remember it. I tried using a G703 for many months but i got so sick how it felt. I like the thumb and pinky grooves on the MX518, and how the side buttons are smaller and above my thumb rather than almost under where i want to grip the mouse. I also like the buttons being one piece with the rear of the mouse having no excess crevasses. Allows for easier cleaning and also just feels better with the convex buttons instead of that convex style that many have, probably because i use a hybrid/claw grip. The hardward itself has a more tactile click than a G703 which i am enjoying as well. The wheel design was not updated and i feel like that was the right choice. Some may dislike it compared to more modern wheels but i am cool with it. You can't really replicate the form of the mouse without keeping the buttons the same as well. It's nostalgic to me so perhaps that is slightly biased of course. It's intended for people like me. If you haven't used an MX518 before maybe you will not like it, or maybe you will. DF: The original MX 518 is the best mouse ever created. I wish I had bought 100 of them when they came out so I'd have enough until I died.

Logitech must've understood it was their best mouse because they've tried to recreate it with this new MX 518. Does it succeed? In some ways yes, in a lot of ways no.

Pros:
-It's the exact same shape so it's comfortable to hold.
-It glides around a hard mouse pad with no issues.
-It's responsive.
-The cord isn't stuff so it isn't fighting against your movements.
-While I prefer the original look, this one looks great too.
-You can save profiles on it.

Cons:
-It is so light and feels so cheap and you can tell the plastic body is extremely thinly made. I know some people prefer a light mouse, but this thing feels like it was made with 25% of the plastic used in the original.
-The cord, while soft, is also extremely thin line the body. I don't have confidence that this will last.
-While the shape is perfect, the body doesn't have that nice soft texture that the original had. This one is a stiff, rigid, hard plastic that is really uncomfortable to hold. It's textured but smooth and doesn't give that nice...

Stefan Jaeger: Ich hatte jetzt schon eine MX510, MX518, G5 und G502 von Logitech. Da mir die Form sehr zusagt, habe ich zu diesem Modell gegriffen. Leider ging mir die G502 kaputt (vermutlich der Sensor) und das Kabel bei meiner G5 hat einen Knick.

Von der Farbe erinnert der Refresh eher an eine MX510, wobei sie eher dezent gehalten wird, passt aber super zu meinen anderen schwarzen Ein- und Ausgabegeräten. Von der Griffigkeit fand ich die G5 besser, hier ist die Oberfläche ziemlich glatt, nicht ideal bei schwitzenden Händen aber durch die Form kein Problem, sie rutscht trotzdem nicht.

Bedenken hatte ich beim Mausrad, das wirkt im Vergleich zu den Vorgängermodellen etwas billig und die Rasterung nicht ganz so genau. Es hat den Test aber mit Bravour bestanden. Ich kann sehr genau meine Waffen wechseln.

Auch der Sensor ist einfach spitze. Ich nutze die G-Hub Software von Logitech. Diese wirkt zwar etwas überladen aber funktioniert tadellos. Hier kann man bis zu 5 DPI Profile einstellen und mit den Tasten neben dem Mausrad umschalten. 16.000 DPI sind finde ich total übertrieben, ich nutze für mein Lieblingsshooter maximal 6.000 DPI, das reicht dicke.
