I have been doing my own bike maintenance since I was in grade school... I had a different manual a couple decades ago, but I had not ridden in a li'l over a decade and just got a new (ish) bike. I now have things like hydraulic brakes, and dropper posts, so I figured it was time for a new maintenance manual. Zinn was one of the top rated manuals, so I figured I would grab it.
WOW... Information overload. I am sure this book tells you almost everything you need to know to be a professional bike mechanic, but it can be a bit hard to find the exact piece of information you need when you need it. I do not feel it is the best organized, but that could just be my logic vs someone else's logic. no two brains work alike and all that. I needed to adjust the derailleur on my mountain bike when I bought it... I ended up going to the internet for the information I needed after finding EVERYTHING about derailleurs EXCEPT what I was looking for. <LOL> I am pretty sure after reading that section of the manual, I could make my own derailleur starting with how to mine the ore I need to make the metal to make a derailleur from scratch :) Seriously though, if you are...

J Emilio: Livro bem completo, com muitos diagramas (não fotos). Não sou mecânico de bike, comprei o livro para me ajudar em algumas manutenções simples que eu mesmo faço. Vale a pena. Outro livro bom é o Blue Book do Calvin Jones (da Park Tool). Mas, não sei porque a Amazon cobra imposto de importação para o livro do Calvin.

karendar: I got this as a stocking filler for my boyfriend one Christmas and didnt read the full description/details. I was a bit shocked at how big and in depth is was, and had been hoping for a quick and easy pocket guide. But he LOVED it. The book is now covered in sticky tabs and highlighter ink and I've seen his bikes in pieces more than I have seen them assembled. He loves tinkering around and this book has been put to good use. From the first moment I gave it to him he's been pawing through it

John Curran: Great book. Very useful. It is in plain English as well and its doesn't take an engineer to understand.

M. Ruminer:
I wanted the book but figured I was wasting my money as I'd end up at a Youtube video in addition any way. I consider this book one of two essentials to doing even the most basic repairs. I'm the guys who hates tuning and repairing his bike because all I do is make it worse. No more! The inability to get a bike turned around for tuning and repair in a reasonable time (due to shop's demand and restrictions due to Covid) has driven me to doing the repairs and tuning on our household of 7 bikes. I was successful so far. I am very impressed with this book.
So, buy this book if you are looking at it. Oh, and go buy the second essential item - a bike repair stand. I think the lower end $45 ones are worth it for even the most casual use. I'll never not own one again.

With step by step guides to pretty much any maintenance and repair I can imagine this has already saved me more than it cost and made my bike much easier to ride as I picked up a couple things I hadn't even realised needed doing!
The guide not only breaks down each process into workable steps but explains a little about it too helping increase understanding.
I've always struggled with maintaining the gear shift on my bike but now have it working as sweet as the day it was new even after my bike was knocked over (without me on thankfully) which threw the whole system out, with the guide in hand I had it all back in place in no time saving a hefty repair bill otherwise.

Lightning Hopkins: I heard this manual was good. Its better than that, its superb. Mr. Lennard Zinn is a master at his craft. I have bikes that are 30+ years old and a couple that are only a year or two old. This book covers everything. I am able to work on older retro components as well as the newest components. Lots of pictures and his explanations on how to achieve your goal of bike maintenance are excellent. Its written technically but in a way that anybody can understand. Mr. Zinn explains what can and cant be done by the everyday home bike mechanic as some things are better left for professionals who have the proper expensive tools. If you are so inclined to spend the money on those tools he tells you what to do to fix just about any bike issue short of actually repairing the frame. Wish I had this book sooner, I bought a couple other fair manuals but this is the Bicycle Repair Bible for everyday mechanics. Thank you Mr. Zinn.
