Maria C. Gonzalez: A must read for anyone facing significant challenges in life. All of us have leadership capabililties in us that usually go untapped in life preventing us from reaching our full potential. Ms. Levine captures your attention from the very first sentence in the book and you know you have found what you have been looking for. I was so moved by this book that I want to share it with my students so they can avoid all the hard bumps along the way in life to become successful at whatever they choose to do.
This book has taught me that despite caring for my mother with alzheimers, working full time, and surviving a heart attack last year there is nothing I cannot do once i harness all the potential I have inside of me to continue putting one foot in front of the other as Ms. Levine says. Everyone should read this book because it will make a significant difference in your life! It did in mine!

Master Counsel,Inc.: Loved your recent presentation on Dave Ramsey's zoom. As you put it, "Yuichiro Miura is one of the most impressive extreme athletes in the world. Not only was he the first person to ski at an altitude above 26,000 feet; he also later went back to summit Everest. Multiple times. The first time at age seventy. The second at age seventy-five.
Just finished "On The Edge", myself at age 75! You have an amazing life story and so beautifully linked to leadership and risk.
Grateful for your life lessons!!
Now you have me looking for the next!

Susan BeesleySusan Beesley: Reading Alison's book you really get a flavour for what leadership is all about and she imparts her wisdom through reference to her experiences as a mountaineer, polar explorer and now an international leadership authority.
It's a seriously valuable resource for entrepreneurs and a highly recommended read

Maccabee Samuel: Alison Levine’s On The Edge has been miscast as a book about leadership principles. It is far more than that. The book recounts compelling stories about remarkable human achievements—Ms. Levine’s achievements, mostly—through which one may glean more than business or leadership lessons, and more of what I regard as life lessons that apply beyond sports and business environments. Along the way while reading about Ms. Levine’s adventures and tribulations toward achieving the Adventure Grand Slam, you will absorb life lessons like: do the right thing—always; show up prepared for whatever lies ahead; complacency will kill you; develop strong relationships; find ways to bring out the best in others; you are not special; it’s not always about you, but about those to whom you are accountable; empower those around you; progress doesn’t always look like progress; and own your failures and learn from them. It’s easy enough to read that list and say, “yeah, seems like a sensible list, I got it.” But absorbing these life lessons by traveling along on Ms. Levine’s journeys helps make them unforgettable and a part of you. (And, by the way, if you read about Ms. Levine’s...

Old Marine: Ms. Levine has written an exceptional book--exceptional because she proceeds from the specific to the general, rather than the other way around. She does not propound theories, as so many would-be business and self-help "gurus" seem to do, then educe specific "rules for success" from those theories. Instead, she begins with her own (extraordinarily) hard-won experiences, and generalizes in an engaging and convincing way from her experiences about what really works, and what does not, in the realm of leadership and team building. Moreover, she recognizes and highlights the ordinarily misunderstood fact that a truly gifted leader not only leads, but also makes everyone else on the team a leader, in one way or another.
She enunciates principles anyone can follow, to their benefit and betterment, as well as to the benefit and betterment of those around them; not merely the relative few who have some God-given gift. I am concerned this fact might be lost on many readers, however, because these observations and words of advice come from someone who has exhibited virtually superhuman endurance and courage in the performance of feats virtually none of us could even conceive of...

Craig Maile: On the Edge was a great read, something you take in short bites and savor. You come away with an appreciation for Levine’s experiences and for her ability to translate them into hand-holds for your own leadership journey.
