The LanSheng 5000g/0.1g Digital Kitchen Scale is the perfect tool for cooking, baking, and weight loss. With an HD LCD, 7 unit options, adjustable shutdown time, and stainless steel construction, this scale provides accurate readings in grams and ounces. Batteries are included for immediate use, and it has been rated as one of the best Digital Kitchen Scales due to its build quality, packaging, ease of use, and overall performance. Amr Mostafa: Great scale, I owned a couple before this one and it is my favorite. While I use this for measuring small quantities such as 3 grams of yeast for my bread, I still would prefer a jewelry scale but unlike my previous scales this one here almost makes this unnecessary. Another thing I love is that it is stable, you won’t find the reading jump up or down randomly or if you lift the bowl up then put it back — things work in a stable manner. Recommended!
Update:
Unfortunately, after few months of use, the buttons now fails to work 50% of the time after turning the scale on, and it's not like I can press the button (any button) one more time to work, no, I actually have to turn off the scale (by taking the battery out, coz remember: the buttons do not work) and turn it back on so that button can start responding again, which YES means losing the previous scale. So what I do now, is before I start measuring anything, I always test the taring button before I put anything so that I don't lose it. Sometimes I forget to do that, and realize midway that it's not going to zero/tare but I've already started adding my ingredients and my hands are not clean so I've to remove...

Eric H: low contrast in some light, +/-0.3g (or better), no adjustable time-out. Works well for the 2 days I have it.
0.1g is just the resolution - that is not +/-0.1g accuracy, and the reading is not perfectly repeatable to 0.1g . 0.3g is the rated minimum readable value.
(SEE EDIT BELOW) 2-minute UN-adjustable time-out means you have to press the tray periodically to keep it awake.
So far it runs on NiMH rechargeable batteries (2x AAA) for about a week then it needs replacement. I'm hoping to find a pair that will last a month at least. The adjusted timeout setting is retained long enough for me to change the batteries without losing that setting. FOLLOWUP: the scale stops working when batteries fall to 1.32v which is disappointing and only takes me 2-3 weeks of use.
It's a fine value - just wish it was adjustable time-out as described.
EDIT: OK there is an UNdocumented procedure to adjust timeout, the selectable settings are 0(none),60,120,180,300 - good enough! I don't know the exact procedure but it appears in one the the answered questions, and in one of the reviews. I just checked and my procedure is:
1. press-and-hold POWER,
2. while the...

JoshJosh: Love this scale. The accuracy and weight limit combination are great, and to have a scale that goes up to such a high weight with a strong accuracy is awesome. I primarily use this scale for foods and so I've included the accuracy with a calibration set I have. The weights below 1,000g are all exact as can be seen in the photos. Once getting to 1,000g the scale then starts to slowly lose accuracy BUT it is within a gram accuracy still. Now this is just the lower range of the scale, but it is more than sufficiently accurate for all of my needs.
There are two drawbacks, but I don't feel they warrant a star reduction.
1. When setting a plate or some other item on the scale, it can block the view of the numbers where you have to bend over a bit to see the numbers. This is a trade-off of the unit having such a small footprint on the counter and I'm fine with it.
2. As others have mentioned the timer before the unit auto-shutoff activates is a bit short, maybe 2 minutes. This is yet another trade-off for battery life. In this case you simply need to be cognizant of occasionally tapping the scale with a finger if you are planning to prepare food while weighing...
