LH: This swimmers' snorkel likely works the way it should, but I did not enjoy it. I found it very easy to drink water through the snorkel as opposed to breathing air. Funny how breathing in water induces instant panic. Well, at least in me. User error has to be suspected as part of the problem, but after being fished out of the pool by the lifeguard, I decided the swimmers' snorkel was not my thing. It isn't super comfortable, giving the wearer a cycloptean feel, and like I mentioned, if you don't sort out how this fits on your head and your position in the water, you may not enjoy this. Superior swimmers and those with the ability to breathe water may feel differently.

Another Prime addict: This is my third snorkel brand I'm trying--have been using it for a couple of months now. The Finis was incredibly uncomfortable--sent it back. Then used the FOCUS snorkel for about 18 months--really liked it overall but it leaked and the leak got worse with time. Never really figured out why or where it leaked, but I had to stop every few minutes to clear it. Now the Kraken:
Pros:
Very comfortable
Very little leaking
Really well designed purge valve--best I've seen so far
Cons:
No reusable case (came in a throwaway plastic bag)
Snorkel vibrates at higher speeds (see below)

If you have an engineering or science background you will understand this--the lower part of the snorkel vibrates rapidly left to right when it reaches a resonant frequency with the water current going by it at higher speeds--really strange. I think the problem is the lower 4 inches or so of the snorkel is a very soft silicone that allows the snorkel to flex a bit. If the material was bit stiffer than the silicone, I think it wouldn't resonate.

Mrs. B: I'm not really one to write reviews - which is terrible as I always read them before buying anything - but I felt compelled to leave one for this snorkel, because it has been SUCH a swim-saver for me (neck injury that's now preventing me from turning my head).
I have been using this snorkel to swim laps for an hour, 5 days a week, for the last two months now, and it is amazing!
I bought this snorkel, and the Swimmers Snorkel ( Swimmer's Snorkel Yellow ) , and ended up keeping this one. This snorkel has nice padding at the forehead (the other did not), and is completely comfortable during extended use. The other was actually painfully uncomfortable. This snorkel also has a slightly broader tube, which reduces the feeling of "breathing through a straw". And overall, from the color to the size/shape of fittings, this one just looks better and has a smaller profile (but lets be honest, you'll probably feel foolish wearing this!).
Two things to note: you may find you need a nose plug and there is a brief adjustment period to the breathing.
1) If you don't exhale through your nose, it will fill with water and pressure. This has always been standard practice for me when not...

J.B.: So I'm a newish swimmer. I never really learned to breath properly while swimming when I was a kid. I basically would go from one end of the pool to the other holding my breath, or peeking my head up and losing all momentum. I just joined a new gym, with a fantastic 10 lanes for lap swimming that aren't very busy, and I really wanted to take advantage especially since I'm a runner healing from a Achilles tendinitis.

To make a long story short, I can swim with this snorkel for over a half hour now. I've done about 6 swims with this snorkel and I'm loving it. Before I was lucky to get across the pool 2-3 times before calling it a day. Now don't get me wrong, this does make swimming easier for a newbie, but it's still damn hard work for the new swimmer. I still find myself sucking air when I do freestyle across the pool. So if your like me, and you want to swim and get some (if not all) of the great benefits of swimming without having to get the breathing right at the start this product is for you!
