Dixie WDixie W: After going mostly pork and shellfish free a few years ago I needed to find a good replacement for pork gelatin and happened upon Great Lakes. Gelatin is one of the ingredients in homemade marshmallows and this brand works wonderfully. I love using this product so much and can't recommend it enough. I will say there is a bit of a smell on its own, but once you add your extract/flavor you can't smell it anymore.

Renee H.: I use this company for 4 years now to buy grass fed beef Collagen which I put a scoop daily in my morning coffee for joint and RA- pain support and recently I read that jello is even a better joint support. I truly love jello, but not the sugars, chemicals etc. So I ordered this powder - it does not melt on its own - it has to be topped with hot water [follow the easy instruction on the box] - it is flavorless - so add your own flavor hile making it or to the finished jello - salty or sweet, fruits of meat it works for any taste you give it.
I have it on my re-order program and can only say - the most solid jello and natural pure beef product..
Not the right product for vegans

Desert DaisyDesert Daisy: This gelatin is absolutely perfect! I combine it with flavored electrolyte power (Ultima) to have a zero-carb dessert at night. It has NO beef flavor whatsoever. I just follow the directions on the can and use either 2 packets or 2 scoops of Ultima electrolyte powder. It’s about the cheapest and easiest 3-ingredient zero carb desert you can possibly make! I don’t care for most of the Ultima flavors as drinks, but oddly enough, all their flavors are great for jello. Raspberry, Watermelon, Peach Bellini, and Appletini are my favorite Ultima jello flavors. Give this dessert a try!

H.I.H.I.: Worked well. I did not notice any unusual scents as a few have reported. It smelled like gelatin; same smell I remember as a child when making Jello.

Also, there were no problems with dissolving. I followed the instructions.
Added it to cold liquid while stirring with a fork. Let it bloom for 5min. Then added it to hot liquid and stir until completely dissolved.

I used it to make sugar-free gummies.

I took off one star because it is a little pricey.

Proud Single Dad: Overview

I started using this as a zero carb option for thickening sauces and gravies.

I also use for this as a dietary suppliant. I dissolve it in broth as a mid day snack, and find it has helped with controlling my heartburn. The price to value ratio is really good on this compared to the smaller containers or envelopes you see in the grocery stores.

I does have a slight odor...but no detectable taste. The shelf life is great...never had an issue using a container before it was even close to the best before.

Pros
-tasteless
-zero carb option for thickening recipes
-Great Value
-Long Shelf Life

Cons
-none

Recommendation – Would buy it again and would highly recommend

Amazon Customer: I bought this gelatin because 1) it's labeled as beef and 2) it's kosher. I was looking to add more gelatin into my family's diet and will be using it mostly for gummy bears. I tried this the day I received it. I made a batch of cranberry juice gummy bears with a recipe I found online. When I added in the gelatin and it started heating, it gave off a terrible smell, like a cow-filled barn. It was horrible and that smell remained in my memory for a few days. The smell seemed to weaken when the product cooled but I couldn't get myself to eat the gummy bears because I remembered the smell (I ended up throwing away that batch). I did some research and others have complained about the same smell of gelatin in general, not specific to this product. I don't want this product to go to waste. I use the green colored one with no problems (I mix it in my smoothie), so I had high hopes for this one. I doubt it was the product that was defective. I am yet to try another batch with another juice flavor, and hoping it wouldn't be so terrible. It might just be that I have a very sensitive sense of smell and all gelatin smells this way.

Joan Levert: I'm not sure why everyone else says they can't smell or taste it... It has a kind of funk to it, for me. The kind of funk that makes me think of bovine skin extract. Oh wait... isn't that what this is? Hehehehe. :)

We've seen a lot of the improvements mentioned by other commenters here, so I'll just pass on a handy tip instead of reiterating the preceding claims and anecdotes.

Do you hate soaking gelatin every time you want to make a cup of tea? Yeah, I hate that too... Such a pain. And mess. I was the dork that used two cups, one for soaking and one for steeping, then poured one into the other when both were ready. Don't laugh, it was my way of coping!

Here's how to fix it: Mix some gelatin into water (I use three tablespoons of gelatin in about a cup of water), pour it into a container, and stick it in the fridge. After a wee bit, it turns into a funny looking gummy. Slice the gummy! I run my knife through it a couple dozen times while it's still in the container. It doesn't have to be pretty. Now every time you make tea, go into the fridge and pick out a couple slices and drop them in your mug while the steeping is going on. They dissolve within seconds, I...

Em Green: I bought this product to address several health results my mother is enduring after chemo and radiation "treatment". This product is top quality and is so versatile.

Her favourite way to incorporate this gelatin into her diet is beef tea. It is soothing and delicious and she drinks it a few times a day. This product has improved her quality of life. It has improved her digestive issues, her bowel issues and her body pains. Her hair is growing fast and is coming in thicker, her nails are stronger, her skin looks plumper and is more resilient--her skin would rip open easily because it became paper thin. Her overall frailness is disappearing and she gets stronger every day.

This tea also provides a way to add spices which support circulation issues or any other supplements you are using to address specific conditions. It's fantastic.

For anyone who would like to make this "tea":

1 Tbsp of Gelatin powder in your large mug
Add, turmeric, black pepper, garlic, fresh parsley, fresh rosemary (or dried and rubbed) and a dash of cayenne pepper
Add a bit of cold water to the powder and spices to make a paste-- let set for 1 to 2 minutes to thicken
Heat...

Health Foodie: I began taking gelatin about 10 days ago in order to heal my gut. I had been having major digestive issues for about 3 months, so I went online to do some research and found a site that outlined a diet which consisted of consuming gelatin with every meal. There was no explanation as to why, so I did further research and discovered that gelatin is great for healing the gut! Not only did it aid in digestion, but another exciting fact was that gelatin heals "leaky gut syndrome," which causes various food intolerances. I have had intolerance to many common foods...especially eggs, which I love.

As I continued my research, I saw that Great Lakes was recommended over the grocery store brands for its high quality of being hormone and antibiotic-free. I could not find any locally, so in desperation of needing relief from my stomach troubles, I decided to get some immediately...I did not care what brand, until I could get my order placed on Amazon.

So, I began Knox gelatin last Thursday evening. I made some grape juice jello and I felt immediate relief in my stomach after eating it. Very soothing. So, I continued for the next few days. I noticed that I felt tired every time...

NorthEast: I'm giving this product 4 stars instead of 5 because I need to get used to the 'taste' and how it slightly changes the texture of the drink (tea or hot cocoa) I put it in...
I would give it 5 stars for performance because I was relieved of hip and 'seat' pain within minutes of drinking my first serving!!
I am pregnant (just around 13-14 weeks) with my 3rd. My first 2 pregnancies were very close and my back muscles (which weren't very strong to begin with) took a serious beating with carrying baby #2 while taking care of baby #1 (having to carry him around until he could walk, carrying him asleep in his car seat, working and going to school, way too busy, now that I look back on how I lived during that 2nd pregnancy). After baby #2 was born, it took me a very very very long time to heal. And even when she turned 3, I would occasionally feel pain in my 'seat' and I just knew it was my body still mending from the ordeal of close pregnancies. To make matters 'worse', I have an umbilical hernia that I didn't know was what I had, and my stomach muscles never completely closed after baby #2 was born. Fast forward 6 years later and I am unexpectedly expecting, and by the end of my...
