Stasul: The chimney starter performs as expected, allowing charcoal to burn without any lighting fluid. Excellent addition to the charcoal barbeque outing. It would be great if one could disassemble it for easier storage/packing/transportation, but that would probably undermine its structural integrity.

Funkyffairy: These are the bomb. I've used paper underneath to get charcoal started, but if you have an outdoor stove and set this thing on there full, light the fire underneath and give it a few seconds, it takes no time at all to get things rolling. Love them, give them as gifts to grillers regularly. Very cool!

WalterB: Would have gave five stars but doesn’t have holes in barrel for a torch. If you’ve never used one of these then you need to start. Quit using lighter fluid or buying instant light charcoal. Just load up your charcoal in this and use a propane torch, once the bottom coals catch its only a matter of minutes until your charcoal is ready to go with out the lighter fluid taste

Walter: I love me some barbeque, especially charcoal, but the squeeze was never worth the juice. I never really wanted to use lighter fluid and it took too long to get the charcoal ashed over otherwise. Enter this chimney starter. All you need is a few piece of newspaper and you'll have your charcoal blazing in no time. I highly recommend!

RobidooRobidoo: Works just fine. However, the rivets do not withstand the heat and broke off after the second usage, leaving the base unsecured. I replaced the rivets with small nuts and bolts and it should last a lifetime.
I use dry twigs and branches to get it started. Then I pour the partially lit charcoal over a bed of unlit charcoal and wait 5 minutes for it to be ready for cooking. If you are using lumps as I do, try to avoid having the smaller pieces fill up the chimney so that the air flow remains unobstructed.
