James Collins: Killing Lincoln is a thrilling read. Authors Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard take what we all know — that the beloved American President Abraham Lincoln was killed by the fiendish John Wilkes Booth — and venture deeper, presenting fascinating and little-known tidbits about the assassination. The writing duo both entertains and educates with a fast pace, easy readability, and pleasing layout. It is a standout in the “Killing” series. It is a book that I highly recommend.

Gary Anderson: I ordered the book in April and wondered why it took so long to be delivered; I received it yesterday, after four months. It was in good condition anb well packed, but the delivery delay makes me award four, not five stars.

Todd Bartholomew: First a confession: I've never read anything written by Messrs O'Reilly or Duggan previously and as such wasn't sure what to expect with "Killing Lincoln". I decided it was best to approach the book unbiased to see if it was any good. By taking a genuinely "fair and balanced" approach I have to admit that "Killing Lincoln" does read more like a thriller even though most readers know the sad outcome. It is clear most of the criticism aimed at the book is due to Mr. O'Reilly's politics and ideology not to mention his prickly personality, and that's a shame. Granted there are factual errors in the book and the authors dispense with footnotes or endnotes, but that scarcely detracts from the sharp and lively prose here. The authors clearly know how to keep the readers attention and clearly "Killing Lincoln" is aimed squarely at lay readers rather than a more scholarly crowd. That's a bit of a shame as more scholarly authors could learn a thing or two about capturing reader's attention. The absence of footnotes and endnotes does call into question the overall accuracy and veracity of what is presented as it is unclear what sources, if any, the authors are using. Dr. Fred: I rarely read the reviews of others before I read the book, however the spread of opinions intrigued me a great deal. I can surmise that some of the one star ratings were from people who had not read the book and wanted to have an opportunity to rant against Bill O'Reilly. I sometimes do that myself when watching the show and we are always happy when Laura Ingraham fills in for him. On the other hand I realize that some of the five star folks may be such big fans that Bill would rate five stars no matter how good or bad the book. I wouldn't feel this way except everyone Bill talks with on Fox News raves about the book. I have read all his books and have in general enjoyed them. I don't consider this his best one, however I enjoyed this one also.

Now let me address my major prejudice, not with this book but with Bill's selection of "best president" which he first described in Pinheads and Patriots. Like Bill, I am a former history teacher, though in my case I was for 41 years. I have always loved history enjoyed any material about our presidents. In my personal view George Washington had to be number one as he set the pattern for all presidents in the future. Lincoln himself...
